The Joy of Juicing,
By
This review is from: Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing (Paperback)
The benefits of juicing are enormous, by getting the essential vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables in a quick, digestible form. Juicing can provide a "meal in a glass" that can make a great snack or even a substitute for a meal in a calorie restricted diet, and for anyone who has to "eat and run", a tall glass of juice is the ultimate fast food.
Part One is "The Basics", with excellent guidelines, including one page of "Juicing Tips" that I found useful. Part Two, "The Disorders", is the bulk of the book, and addresses common ailments and diseases, describes the condition, gives general recommendations, dietary modifications, nutrients that help, beneficial juices and suggested recipes. A wide range of disorders are discussed. Under "C" for instance, there is not only the obvious cancer and cholesterolemia (high cholesterol) listed, but also ailments like carpal tunnel syndrome, which is not usually thought of as being helped through nutrition ("The majority of carpal tunnel sufferers have been found to have low levels of vitamin B6", page 93), and also that bane of 40+ women, cellulite: "The good news is that cellulite can be reversed significantly" (page. 100), and the book tells you how. Part Three is "The Diet Plans", and has suggestions for everyday meals, with basic healthy eating, "Immune Support Diet", and many different types of cleansing diets and advice. Cherie "The Juicewoman" Calbom and Maureen Keane have a long list of credentials and "know their onions" in the field of nutrition, and if you believe that what you eat has a direct impact on you physical health and stress level, this is a good book to have in your library. Also recommended is "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" by James and Phyllis Balch.

Excellent Juicing for Life, Health and Vitality,
By
This review is from: Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing (Paperback)
What I love about this book is that ailments you wish to cure are listed in category order, which makes it quite easy to find a juicing recipe to help reverse the internal effects.
Additionally, the book gives wonderful general recommendations along with an explanation of that ailment. On top of that, "Dietary Modifications" are provided with practical, easy to understand advice as to what foods and beverages to avoid, along with "Nutrients that Help" combined with "Beneficial Juices". Then, to top it all off there are great "Suggested Juicing Recipes" that will target whatever ails you. From anti-ageing to chronic fatigue syndrome, to underweight, this book is simple to follow and provides you with the knowledge of exactly what your system needs in order to maintain maximum health. Highly recommended if you want to improve your health, and bring nutrient-rich vitamins and minerals into your body naturally. Outstanding,

This book is informative and very useful. Its an obvious fact that fresh fruits and vegetables play a huge factor in our wellbeing and general health, they keep all kinds of ailments and diseases at bay. Cancer has everything to do with diet - it has been widely proven that people with the disease that had a rich diet of fruit and vegetables, actually went into recession. Heredity only plays a small part - there is no guarantee that you get the disease. This book is not meant to cure anything - simply supplements your diet with vital nutrients needed to keep healthy and build a strong immune system. I love it and highly recommend it to anyone.

This work is a comprehensive guide on the nutritional dimensionsof various food groups; such as alkaline and acidic. The author provides very detailed recommendations relative to the anti-inflammatory vitamins and nutrients which are necessary to prevent and manage rheumatological diseases and processes. The author explains how to make juice preparations with widely- known anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory components. Such preparations include Vit. C, Vit E, Cu., Bromelain and Superoxide dismutase to mention just a few.Back pain and tenderness may be managed with reduction of animal fats in the diet, the addition of fish and particularly Omega-3 fatty oils, avoidance of coffee and cleansing diets. There is an interesting protocol for osteoporosis which consists of kale, parsley, apples and carrots in a juicing cocktail. In addition, the author identifies Vit. C, E, Selenium, Ca., Potassium and chromium as nutrients which might help to implement a cancer protocol.Lastly, the author very studiously reviews sample diets and nutrients for a plurality of chronic disease processes that may or may not respond well to conventional therapies. This book is a worthy investment for any person willing to make the commitment of time and sacrifice to implement the protocols in the interest of maintaining good general health far into the future.

Food for Thought,

This review is from: Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing (Paperback)
We're about to order our second copy - we think we loaned the first one out, but we can't remember to whom.
I think there may actually be a section in this book on juices for improving memory... In any case, we're on our third juicing machine and this is the best juice "cookbook" we've found so far. Counterbalancing the taste of raw kale juice is a culinary trick, but these folks do it!

All Hale King of the Juice...,
By John P. Morgan "Light Coach" (Beautiful San Dimas, CA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing (Paperback)
I got into juicing about 12 years ago when I was working the night shift at a grocery store. Most of my fellow employess were all hooked on caffeine and sugar trying to keep themselves awake for that shift. I wanted to do something that would not only keep my energy levels high but I also didn't want to "crash" when I finally did go to sleep.
So I began juicing. At first, it was primarily carrot juice. I drank about maybe 3-4 cups of fresh carrot juice a day and I noticed the benefits of it right away. I always tried to maintain a healthy lifestyle, anyway, but juicing really seemed to give me that something "extra" that I was looking for. Then I got this book and I began follwing some of her recipes as well as inventing a few of my own. My favorite "concoction" is something I call the Zest Fest: 5 medium carrots 6 cherry tomatoes 2 stalks celery 1/2 red bell pepper 1/2 cucumber 1 small piece of ginger 2 garlic cloves Sliver of onion Sliver of lemon 1/2 shot of white vinegar 1/2 shot worsteshire sauce A few shakes of your favorite hotsauce Salt & Pepper Juice all the vegetables, add the condiments, mix well in a glass jar with a lid, drink and enjoy! This little potion of mine has warded off several types of the flu as well as other common ailments and gives me a sense of vibrancy and vitality all throughout the day. Of course, my skin is bright orange now and I can see through walls, but so what? =) The benefits of fresh juicing are incredible and this book goes into great detail what those benefits are. If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, get a juicer, get this book, raid the produce stand, and make your health and your well-being top priority.

Missing Information,
By Lyn Health Nut (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing (Paperback)
I bought this book to add juice to my diet as well as for a juice fast to detox. However, this book is missing important information on this topic. This book is very helpful for ADDING more juice to your diet, but it doesn't cover the necessary information on a strict juice diet commonly used for cleansing (detoxing), illness, and weight loss.
A pure juice diet (fast) requires an introduction phase and a tapering off phase, neither which are covered. It also does not mention the effects of a juice fast, which can include fatigue-like symptoms, skin flare-ups, etc as the body detoxes, as well as the need for large quantities of water for juice fasting. It would also be helpful to have a table of reference of the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables. What nutrients does a cantaloupe have? You have to check out beneficial juices under specific illnesses to find out cantaloupe's nutrients. It is basically the same handful of recipes over and over. The authors missed a great opportunity to fully educate on what one should know if juicing is used for the purpose of detox, weight loss or illness. I hope the next printing is updated with this additional information.

My second copy.,

This review is from: Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing (Paperback)
When you open book and use it in the kitchen over and over, it gets a little worn out. I used it to death.
Some people, have a real hard time with it. The "no-veggie-eating all junk and meat types", oh and don't get me wrong, I'm no rabbit. I love steaks and Taco Bell too, which is WHY I choose to juice. When a friend complains about an ailment, I read up and try to help. Some people are so stubborn and finicky. Yeah, maybe kale, parsley, carrot tastes nasty, but the benefits FAR outweigh the nasty taste. Chase it with somthing REAL good, like pineapple or carrot, apple, ginger. That's no different than the nasty concoctions of liquor shots we used to down with chasers back in the day. Especially if you can forgo eating a huge plate of veggies, ugh. What do you want? Ulcers? Irritable Bowels? Arthritis? Acne? Worse? Or somthing that tastes nasty for a minute and practically saves your life? Have some juice and a bran muffin for cryin out loud. Duh.

This book is EXCELLENT and one which I highly recommend. Yes...it's from 1992 but it all still stands true. The one thing about eating this type of food/juice and eating this way in general is that the underlying benefits and facts don't change. It certainly is not a fad but based on principles that stand the test of time. You can buy a book on this subject that is 50 years old or one that is brand new...they will say pretty much the same thing. This book is very well laid out tho' and is packed with a wealth of information. It points out the benefits of juicing and what each vegetable and fruit is good for...and how to drink them, along with some excellent recipes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
