Dummies! Dummies!! Dummies!!!, August 14, 2005
This review is from: Juju Roots 1930's - 1950's (Audio CD)
Sorry for the Living Dead reference.
But seriously, don't listen to these dummies....
No, "seriously, folks, -- you'd have to have your brain eaten out a yore skull, I believe 'disembrained' is the correct term, to not get this incredible collection of musique...."
SERIOUSLY now. This CD made me use the adjective "wonderful" sincerely for the first time in a long time. A guaranteed cure for your cynical ear . . . "cynicism" being an Old-World white man's word. Some of the sweetest, most sincere music I have ever heard, and that's the truth. None of your phony-baloney "I was absolutely riveted" adjective-salad critiques here. This is the real deal. It's not gentle but it is kind. Putting the 'ruth' back in truth . . . O mercy.
Thank you Rounders. Thank you Africa.

This CD was produced by the musicologist C.A. Waterman who also wrote a book about JuJu music. This record is a "must have" to any person interested in Ju Ju music. The historical notes in the accompanying booklet are very well written. It will be a surprise to some listeners from the Caribbean to learn that there are some connections between the early forms of Ju Ju music and cuban son in particular with the music of Trio Matamoros.
