This cash-in CD's genial, all-over-the-place programming seems to reflect its compilers' confusion about exactly what the roots of the '90s swing revival are. The hard-charging Count Basie workout "Swingin' the Blues," Dave Bartholomew's jump blues "That's How You Got Killed Before," Alvino Rey's ear-rendingly brassy "Cement Mixer," and Fats Domino's proto-ska "Be My Guest" are all trotted out as evidence before the jury declares a mistrial and heads for a bar. --Rickey Wright

Format: Audio CD
Old school swing bands that bring the brass to the front among many of the artists on this disc.
I own it, I play, and I catch myself on many times turning it up too loud on the system I have at the office because I get carried away with the sound, style and impact of the Brass instruments on favorites like "Swingin the Blues" by Count Basies crew.

love it all.
