4.0 out of 5 stars A Boogie Woogie Showcase, August 13, 2000
By
This review is from: Juke Joint Jump: Boogie Woogie Celebration (Audio CD)
I wanted to get a birthday present for one of my best friends. I sought a fine boogie woogie collection in the pattern of Black and Blue's "Boogie Woogie Masters". Juke Joint Jump does fill that bill. It has cuts by titans of the art: Memphis Slim plays "Panic Street", Art Tatum plays "Tatum Pole Boogie", Champion Jack Dupree plays "Dupree Shake Dance", Pete Johnson plays "Boogie Woogie" and others. Freddie Slack's "Down the Road a Piece" is an infectious tune that lingers. There are 18 cuts in all, none of them bad, and some of them very very good.

[ I initially wrote this text as a comment, but eventually found a suitable clickable button, but I still don't know how to bump the stars ]

I just now read through my review of Juke Joint Jump a Boogie Woogie Celebration. I thought to edit it but couldn't find an appropriate button to click. Anyway, I've listened to this cd a couple hundred times since I wrote that review (7 years ago (the thud you may have heard was the sound of my dropping jaw banging on the desk)!). I'd bump my review to 5 stars if I could. I love this cd.
