Probably like many people, I first heard Renea's "Dollhouse" single and immediately categorized her in the commercial pop genre. However, I liked it enough to go and look up Renea on youtube and was floored by the some of her acoustic performances of "Rockabye Baby" and "Lovesick". The majority of this cd rides the line between experimental r&b and indie piano driven adult pop. (Actually no other song on this cd even remotely sounds like "Dollhouse") I know this is weird but think a voice like Rihanna singing like Regina Spektor over music like Sara Barellis. Not only are Renea's voice and music fresh though, but the majority of lyrics are certainly above average and in many cases excellent. Love this album!!!!**Also, it's of note that Renea is quite a talented musician as well (plays both guitar and piano on the album)

PRISCILLA RENEA HAMILTON...Cheryl Cole's secret weapon!!,
By Larry Davis "powerpoplarry" (NYC/Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jukebox (Audio CD)
This great, and unassuming, debut record "Jukebox" is like an unexpected surprise, regardless of her many homemade YouTube videos..."Dollhouse", the first single may have thrown some people off, as it's like a better Avril Lavigne or Kelly Clarkson, and it was an unfair introduction to the whole album...as good as this perfect pop song was, people tend to categorize artists from the get-go based on the first single..."Jukebox" has more variety and creativity than that song implies. Every tune is well-crafted and different from the next...Rhianna meets Sara Bareilles??? Nah, she's better than both. I don't want to even try because it will sell Priscilla and this record short. Now, she is going places...possibly in the background as an artist-behind-artists and independent producer-for-hire...why I say that??? One person she is heavily involved with is Girls Aloud member and UK solo superstar Cheryl Cole!!! On her 2009 debut record, Priscilla sang backup and co-wrote one of the album's best tunes "Happy Hour", which should have been a single. Well, she noticed and so did her label, Polydor/Universal UK, because on Cheryl's 2010 2nd solo album "Messy Little Raindrops", Priscilla's role was increased to 4 songs, including the first single, the ace "Promise This", with the catchy schoolyard chant intro and hook throughout...as well as the 2nd single, the lovely ballad "The Flood". But according to the liner notes on Cheryl's 2nd album, Priscilla is still signed to Capitol and appears courtesy of Capitol...so apparently, the label thinks she's important to have on the roster still...not sure how many copies "Jukebox" sold, but it didn't knock the walls down or anything, and we'll see what her 2nd album has to offer...when she records it. All in all...Priscilla Renea Hamilton is one special talent...watch her career...

Seemingly light-hearted CD but definitely a message behind the sweet melodies and beats. Love to see the youtube artists make it to mainstream. Sometimes you wonder if their efforts will be recognized. Great job, Priscilla. My faves: Lovesick, Pretty Girl and Bacon 'n Eggs.
