5.0 out of 5 stars Juki TL-98Q, July 30, 2008

I really love this machine. I got it about three weeks ago and I was so pleasantly surprised by it's performance. Yes, it only does a straight stitch but it does a perfect, powerful, clean straight stitch unlike any machine I have used--- aside from an industrial Juki, which is just not practical in my apartment. I thought my old Singer was great (and it is, i must say) but this machine has not jammed once, it performs perfectly and I could not be happier with it!! I highly recommend this to anyone who sews a lot or who works in the fashion industry but just doesn't have room for an industrial at home!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Closest thing to an industrial machine., February 3, 2010
This review is from: Juki TL98Q w/ $50.00 Gift Cert. & Bonus Pkg. (Kitchen)
I bought this machine a few years ago because I couldn't resist the idea of a faster home machine. I still have my Bernina, (25 years old) that sews beautifully, But I have to admit that I LOVE sewing on this machine. It is fast and the stitches are solid. It also has the same features that I love on my Bernina, which is the leg lift, and easy set up. The threading is smooth, and downright flawless. Honestly, the price is fantastic if you consider what you have to pay for an industrial machine, or even a brand new Bernina. I find that I can do 80% of my sewing using a single stitch. I have to switch back to my Bernina for button holes and maybe special darning projects (which I rarely use). I've worked on vinyl, polyester chiffon, denim and lots of cotton. Stitches are so clean, I would trust this machine for decorative top stitching. I didn't really "need" this additional machine, but now that I have it, I would never give it up.

Machine is very straight forward in its use. Simple to operate and very sturdy. Has a very large table add on which makes it great for quilting. Machine operates extremely well with the Grace stitch regulator when used in a frame. It is very fast and has a nice stitch. Has a built in cone thread holder which makes it nice for machine quilting.

5.0 out of 5 stars This has been discontinued..., January 22, 2011

The updated version of this model is TL2010Q. Don't be fooled into buying the TL2000QI. The later has less features (no speed control) and less standard feet. You can get the 2010Q for less than what the 2000QI is selling for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic machine for quilters, July 19, 2011

I love this machine. I own a Janome, a Viking and 2 Berninas that are computerized machines. I just thought they were the best until I got my Juki TL98Q. I love the automatic thread cutter on the foot control and the knee lift. They make for a very fast piecing session when doing repetitive chain piecing. I don't have to stop and snip everything apart or trim thread ends. I also like that I don't have to hold onto the thread tails to start the next piece as you do with a regular machine. No thread "nests" on the back to deal with. It does take an "L" style bobbin so don't get them mixed up with Class 15 or 66 bobbins but you can buy large boxes of these bobbins pre-wound fairly reasonably as they are used by the larger long-arm quilting machines as well.
I will be taking this machine to any sewing retreats I attend. It is not that heavy. The only negative thing I found was the cover. Flimsy plastic useful only as a dust cover. I am going to make a quilted cover (and a matching bag to hold the accessories) since it has a built in handle. It does not fit into a standard replacement case.
The extension table is well made and is not plastic as so many are. It has a place on the bottom to store the knee lift.
I do recommend some sort of stick-on spacer to prevent the fabric from wandering under the presser foot as it can be hard to control the seam allowance at this speed. I use a Post-It pad. Placed next to the foot itself, it gives a scant 1/4" seam allowance.
The larger throat area is great for machine quilting larger projects as well as manipulating foundation pieced blocks on paper.
If you can only get a single machine for quilt making, this is it. I'm just sorry that I didn't get one when they first came out. Bells and whistles are great if you use them but if you mostly do straight stitching for piecing and quilting, this is the machine to have. Price is fantastic compared to most quality machines.
That said, the machine went out the door this morning to SC with my daughter to take to a two week class in Baltimore Ohio in a couple months. Sigh . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars great sewing machine for quilters, April 27, 2011
This review is from: Juki TL98Q w/ $50.00 Gift Cert. & Bonus Pkg. (Kitchen)
I have owned my Juki TL98Q for over a year. What a performer. The speed is incredible, powerful, yet easy to control. The machine only does straight stitch, but for a quilter it is one of the best. It also has an automatic threader and thread cutter, which is so convenient. This machine is WELL worth the money, and I would certainly recommend it to quilters. (too big to take to retreats, however) I too enjoy my bernina for the extras that it has, but this Juki is really wonderful for machine quilting, and making quilts. I truly enjoy this machine and would HIGHLY recommend it! It does a GREAT JOB.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great item Juki Quilting machine, December 25, 2011
This review is from: Juki TL98Q w/ $50.00 Gift Cert. & Bonus Pkg. (Kitchen)
I am very impressed with the quality of this machine. Parts are made very heavy duty. Machine is heavy I would recommend this machine to any quilter that needs a machine for the basic stitch. wish they had the bonus package when I purchased.
