Editorial Reviews

Review

This delightful children's book is about a bored Berner in search of a job. We join Jules in his search for a job, only to find it was right in front of him all the time. As he explores thoughts of all the more typical Berner or dog related jobs, the illustrations use a squirrel to help add some fun. As with so many children's books, the fun is in finding many of the details in the drawings which aren't immediately apparent. I do hope P.T. Custard does a sequel, or two or three! --Pat Long, Berner-Garde Foundation

More About the Author

P.T. Custard was born in Royal Oak, Michigan. She spent her "wonder years" in Baltimore, Maryland. A graduate of Colorado State University, P.T. focused her first career on informal education working for the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, as the Director of Education for the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, Oregon and as a Senior Associate for the Institute of Learning Innovation in Annapolis, Maryland. During this career she authored award-winning curriculum-based books used in classrooms nationwide.

Encouraged by friends she decided to launch her second career as a children's book author/publisher. Her first book JULES THE LIGHTHOUSE DOG was inspired by her time living at the Pt. Loma lighthouse with her family dog Jules. Her publishing company, Black Plume Books, was named to honor P.T.'s Baltimore roots - a nod to Baltimore's favorite adopted son, Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven - and for the love of the big, black birds she developed while living in Alaska.

Married to a Coast Guard officer, P.T. has grown accustomed to moving VERY frequently and counts Oregon and Alaska as two of her favorite places in which she has lived. She currently lives in Juneau, Alaska with her husband Buddy and her Shetland Sheepdogs, Dill - the star of P.T.'s second book, KID CANINE-SUPERHERO! - and Truman.

5.0 out of 5 stars a good dog will never let you down!, June 11, 2007
This review is from: Jules The Lighthouse Dog (Hardcover)
I bought this book months before it became available on Amazon, on the recommendation of a good friend. My children are now a little too old to appreciate it, but I hope will read it to their own children. I mostly bought it for myself, and Jules has not disappointed. It's written in a light hearted but poignant way, is beautifully illustrated, and filled with love and wisdom. For toddlers through the elementary grades, and for dog lovers of any age.

5.0 out of 5 stars With a dog and a lighthouse, you can't go wrong!, March 21, 2007
This review is from: Jules The Lighthouse Dog (Hardcover)
We recently added Jules the Lighthouse Dog to our library's collection, and it is a very popular book! The illustrations are great, and the story is engaging. Since we are located in Michigan near a lighthouse, and since dogs are popular with nearly everyone, this book has been a hit. We hope there will be more books from this author to follow.
