Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-5-- Julia has suffered from epilepsy since she fell down some stairs as a toddler. She is unhappy because her parents are divorced, her parrot has - flown away, and the children at school misunderstand and tease her. Despite her medication, she has a seizure at school and is sent to rest in the nurse's office. While there, an earthquake hits and, naturally, it is Julia who helps to save her classmates who are trapped in the gym. When she goes home, she finds that her bird has returned, thus making it a perfect day. A little information is given about the disease but not enough to make the book worth purchasing. There is no real character development and the plot is contrived, as is the ending. Barbara Aiello's Trick or Treat or Trouble (21st Century, 1989) is a better story and gives readers more information about epilepsy. --Margaret C. Howell, West Springfield Elementary School, VA
