Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grades 6-8--Coming of age during the Vietnam era, Bond made his mark as an early organizer for SNCC in Atlanta. He became nationally known when he was elected to the Georgia State House of Representatives but was refused a seat because of his outspoken antiwar views. When the U.S. Supreme Court overturned his expulsion and he was seated in the Georgia Legislature, his prominence was ensured and he was catapulted onto the national stage. In a variety of capacities since that time, he has actively sought to end racism and discrimination. Captioned, black-and-white photos show Bond at different stages of his life. A well-put-together, straightforward introduction to a respected activist.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Man for All Seasons, November 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Julian Bond: Civil Rights Activist and Chairman of the NAACP (African-American Biographies (Enslow)) (Library Binding)
This biography of Julian Bond is a straightforward factual portrait of the man and his roots in the African American community of the South. Although Bond initially chose not to follow his roots into academic community, he ended up there after his years in the civil rights movement. This study of him provides the reader with keys to the events of his life. It is a valuable starting point to get the facts about him right but unlike John Neary's study of him, Julian Bond: Black Rebel, it does not provide a picture of him as a sensitive man who is a key figure in the early student civil rights movement.

This review is from: Julian Bond: Civil Rights Activist and Chairman of the NAACP (African-American Biographies (Enslow)) (Library Binding)
I purchased this book to use as a reference in my African American Studies paper. This book contained little known facts about Mr. Bond that assisted me in obtaining an A+ on my final paper.
