Editorial Reviews

Paul Banks of Interpol steps out from behind his alter-ego Julian Plenti with this 5-song EP. The EP is an introduction to his 2012 full length album Banks. The EP is strictly limited and numbered in both formats, in a quantity of 1500 apiece. It features 5 tracks, including the brooding and beautiful original "Summertime Is Coming," plus an original instrumental and three covers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Always interesting, never dull September 22, 2012
Format:Audio CD
The songs are expertly crafted with lots of tiny detail. The new songs that Banks writes are a treat. One great thing about Banks' work, solo and with Interpol is that he's not too inhibited, he seems to feel free to just let it all flop around, and he's unafraid to reach for the heights.

Summertime is Coming is grand. That alone is worth the purchase price.

The covers are really interesting. There's a cover from the soundtrack to the Arnold Schwartznegger movie Running Man, a cover of a J Dilla instrumental, and the weirdest song I've ever heard a cover of Frank Sinatra. It's almost Robert Goulet in its brilliance, a Las Vegas lounge lizard that he hints at in his Julian Plenti persona, it's grand and weird, taut and intricate, a great EP.

hi there, if you are a big fan of INTERPOL this Paul Banks album ...well maybe is not entirely similar as INTERPOL beats and rythms (would say just for the 2nd song: "summertime is coming" that reminds you of it) but nontheless i think is a GREAT ALBUM as Paul Banks melodyc/strange voice will hypnothise your ears, specially in the Frank Sinatra's cover "Im a fool to want you" in which Paul interpretation is very heartfull and a rockish-alternative way of this version...and the rest of the songs are very creative adding strings and cellos arrangements ("perimeter deactivated") and experimental well-coordinated rythms. As a fan of INTERPOL and the previous work of JULIAN PLENTI (Paul Banks) i dare to say i LOVE THIS E.P., and can't wait to listen to the forthcoming LP ....... i belive is gonna be just outstanding. WAY TO GO PAUL!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Banks' best work December 14, 2013

I'm a big Interpol fan from way back and have followed Paul Banks'/Julian Plenti's solo career for almost a decade. This gem is some of his best work - an eclectic mix of covers and original music that gets under your skin. The standout track? A cover of Frank Sinatra's "I'm a Fool to Love You". Definitely recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing August 5, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Paul Banks' voice is beyond hypnotic. I could listen to that man sing the alphabet, and I'd still be mesmerized. If it's Paul Banks or Interpol, I'm going to like it. Although, I have to admit that one of the songs has a bit too much "Lounge" influence.
