Wonderful book with winsome characters,

This is a wonderful book that I couldn't put down! Janette Oke is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. The many different character's she brings to life are each memorable and touching as they go in and out of the boarding house. Each ones visit is like a story within a story. This book is very engaging as we fall in love with John, Julia and their twin daughters and hope that they can save their town! I would highly recommend it.

From what i remember it was detailed which gave me the feeling to feel sympathy for those in the book. I have read other books written by Janette Oke and have enjoyed everyone just as much as this one.

Enjoyable, Bittersweet, Thought-provoking,

I fell in love with Julia Harrigan and her family as they fight to save the town they love. Though they end up leaving the now-ghost town of Calder Springs, it is evident that they stayed as long as they were needed to stay, and learned the lessons and had the experiences God had for them there. Each new phase of their adventure in the dying town teaches them more about faith in God and being a witness...as well as introduces them to some interesting characters! The ending was bittersweet in a way, but also very encouraging. I think it's one of my favorite books!

This book is not the quality of work that I've come to expect from Janette Oke. I was very disappointed in it, and quit reading it about half way through. The characters were lovable and interesting, but I thought the plot dragged just a bit too much for me.

i loved this book, it combines everything. a beautiful, close family, a mother's strong faith that upholds the whole house, even the whole village. i loved how it shows that God always has the answer to our problems, He is always capable to provide what we need, in the best way. but sometimes, not in the way we expect Him to.the wisdom of this little book is priceless.

Julia's Hope,

This review is from: Julia's Last Hope (Women of the West (Paperback Bethany House)) (Paperback)
Yet another good Janette Oke book! This one tells the story of Julia and her husband, along with their twin daughters. The mill in their small town is closing, and John (Julia's husband) works at the mill, along with basically all the men in the town. They have to decide what to do. Should they move? or fight to keep the town alive? I enjoyed this book, but felt that it was a little bit boring in some aspects (hence the 4 stars). In the end, John and Julia come to a decision and discover how important it is to keep the family together.

I have come accustomed to reading Janette Oke's thought-provoking books, but this one did none of the sort. This has little romance, which also surprises me, and the plot drags on and on; it never really seems to get anywhere to me. I read it in a day, but not because it was good, but because I just wanted to finish so I could read another book. I would not recommend this one.

Not one of Oke's best.,

"Julia's Last Hope" is a typical Janette Oke book, but I felt that it fell short of her other books. I always turn to Oke's books when I need a book to read quickly, and this is the case with this one. While it's light and easy to read, I didn't feel it provoke any emotions within me, like her stories usually do. I thought the plot to be rather redundant, and I was waiting for something to happen - and nothing ever did. I do not recommend.
