5.0 out of 5 stars For Julie Christie Fans, February 26, 2006
This review is from: Julie Christie: The Biography (Hardcover)
I was born after Julie Christie's prime, and therefore didn't know much about her. After watching Dr. Zhivago, I was intrigued to know more. This book was definitely helpful in fulfilling my curiosity. It is an easy read; it's definitely not as convoluted as some actresses biographies are (i.e. Liz Taylor, Marilyn Monroe). There's not hundreds of names thrown at you every which way, which helps it to not be too confusing. It gave a good sense of who Julie Christie was and is. It also goes into detail for her most important films. There are 16 pages of pictures (most black and white). The chapters are:

1 Early Days

2 Reluctant Star

3 Billy Liar

4 Birmingham, Moscow, New York

5 Darling Julie

6 Doctor Zhivago

7 'And the winner is...'

8 Warren Beatty

9 Don't Look Now

10 Back Home

I have seen several of Christie's movies since reading the book. It is a must-read for any Julie Christie fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light on biography, heavy on film analysis. Verdict: Terrific!, July 5, 2009

As a fan of Julie Christie, an actress of intelligence and well- documented beauty, I found this biography a real treat. I already knew a lot about her life (which, since she is a woman who shuns the spotlight and many of the excesses that make for good, trashy, celebrity bios...is pretty uneventful) so I really loved that so much of the book is devoted to analyzing individual films and providing behind-the-scenes info.
An easy, accessible read and a fitting look at the career of an endlessly fascinating actress.

Julie Christie has proven throughout her illustrious career the variety and diversity of her talent. From the delightful "Billy Liar," "Dr. Zhivago," and oscar-winning "Darling" she was the darling of movies in her early years. Yet, up to her present day, she still has performed in oscar-nomiated movies,(All about Her), the last being a great part as a woman who has Alzeimer's and the realistic love affair with her husband as her marriage is falling apart as she drifts off into her own world in a nursing home.
Smart enough to deter any inquiries into her private life, she looms above most actresses as a steady, mature and intelligent person. The book reveals what a fine, mature and great professional artist she is. Read it!
