From School Library Journal
Julie is courted by cheeky Irishman Dylan O'Kelly and staid surveyor Samuel Harper. It's obvious from the beginning which one gets her, so the suspense comes in Julie's derring-do, as she foils an Indian attack, crosses a swaying railroad trestle in a blinding storm, and hides in a cave to overhear the villain plan an avalanche that temporarily cripples Dylan. The characters are cutouts, to such a degree that the book seems like one of those old-fashioned silent movies in which the audience hisses the villain. The delirious tone is heavy going, but the historical background (Utah, 1868) is well portrayed, if very simplified.
