July Talk is evidently the offspring of the Cookie Monster and Tom Waits. And yes they are as awesome as that sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock and Roll September 1, 2013

I stumbled on these guys and a gal in a YouTube search for something else. Singer Leah Fay's face filled the thumbnail and well... I've always been a sucker for a pretty face. Peter Dreimanis is her polar opposite. It sounds as if he'd struggle just to speak, but somehow, he deftly keeps on key with power and authority. A classic drum, bass, rhythm and lead guitar arrangement (sometimes keyboard) backs this unlikely duo who seem to fight each other with every word sung or spoken giving the whole album tension and energy. Watching their videos makes it even better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally awesome January 9, 2014
Format:Audio CD
Discovered the band while listening to World Café on the way home one evening and automatically fell in love. You would not think that the two voices would go well together, but they blend in a wonderful way. Well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar debut album November 14, 2012
By Nestea
Format:Audio CD
The co-lead singer sounds very much like Tom Waits, but is balanced out by the soft melody of his female counterpart. The first song that drew me in was Paper Girl. Never mind the fact that it's been stuck in my head for almost a week, it's raw, its powerful. The beat coupled with heavy rifts carries Paper girl as it does The Garden, a wonderful album opener. The Garden sounds like good ole dirty rock and roll. Makes you want to get down and dance. Someone starts a little muddled but the hook brings it all together wonderfully. The more ballad-esque, Having You Around, slows down the pace and showcases a slower paced tempo before leading into a brooding Dont Call Home. I think a song that will be overlooked on this album is The Come Down Champion. A bare-bones song that has multiple layers underneath that compile wonderfully at the end. They honestly could release an album with the male singer narrating paint dry and I'd still listen to it. I can't wait for them to tour the small clubs in the US as I'll definitely be there no question.
