Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
If April showers are keeping kids housebound, they can turn to these books for hours of entertainment. Kids Can Press offers two comprehensive activity books with the Jumbo Book of Easy Crafts by Judy Ann Sadler, illus. by Caroline Price, and the Jumbo Book of Music by Deborah Dunleavy, illus. by Louise Phillips. Organized according to basic supplies (e.g., milk cartons or tissue paper), Crafts gathers a large variety of simple projects concisely explained in one to two pages each. The step-by-step line drawings allow even the youngest craftsmen to follow along. The second title invites aspiring musicians to make their own instruments and offers instruction in reading music. Songs from around the world (with melody lines included) sit side by side with directions for musical instruments such as the "door-stopper sprong" and the "tin-can bass."

From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 4-Arranged by type of material, this guide gives many craft ideas for using such household items as aluminum foil, plastic berry baskets, beans, buttons, catalogs and magazines, clothespins, cookie cutters, and milk cartons. Several projects are also suggested for less commonly found materials, such as beads, beeswax, jingle bells, and fabric paint. Clear, step-by-step instructions include detailed black-and-white illustrations. For teachers, day-care providers, or parents, this handy manual will help to create a wealth of useful, if not unique projects and activities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, easy projects using every day things, May 25, 2007
My 6 year old loves arts and crafts and I am the least crafty person I know so I have several arts and crafts books to help me. This is the best one we own. The projects are simple and easy - my 6 year old can usually do them by herself and most just need stuff we already have around the house. Other books we own have "cooler", bigger projects but they often require a trip to store to get materials we don't have and usually require my help which we often don't have the time for. This is the one book my daughter can just pick-up and do projects on her own or with friends. My daugher says "this one is the best" and I agree.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, May 29, 2007
I love this book. It is organized by the main material needed. All the crafts can be done by both my 5 and 7 year old, and they love the end product. This book also offers other suggestions at the end of each set of craft directions for possible alternative crafts. This is not rocket science, it's just quick and dirty crafting for those kids who are bored and love making things. I'm so glad I got it before summer vacation. PS. If you have some craft supplies around your house on a normal basis,(paint, pipe cleaners, beads, foam, felt), you won't need to go buy a bunch of specialty items to complete these crafts.

A Kid's Review
This is a really fun book, I have made almost every craft in the book! I also love a brand new DVD I just got called Crafty Fun, It helps me when I see someone else do it! I recommend both of these.
