This thing is awesome,

The packaging was in German, but it said that the ball was intended for making soups or something. Whatever. I use it daily to make a pitcher of cold-brew iced tea, and it works perfectly. The smaller tea balls are too small to make a whole pitcher at once, but with this one, I can fill it with black tea leaves, drop it into some water, leave it there for a few hours, and, voila! Cold Brew Iced Tea! Note: I only fill the ball about 1/3 full, since the tea expands while it's in the water. By the time I remove the ball from the water, the tea nearly fills the whole thing. This beats the $#@%$ out of paper tea bags for sure. :)

This strainer was the only one the right size for making a 10 cup pot of tea allowing the tea to fully expand. I then add this stronger brew to water in a juice jar to make a complete jar of tea. only complaint is that fine particles do go thru it. I strain again with finer strainer when pouring stronger brew into jar.

The mesh is too wide so tea particles end up in your tea,
This review is from: Jumbo Stainless Steel Tea Ball Infusers; 4.5 Inches (Health and Beauty)
You would think the diameter would be wider (it is) but the mesh the same density as smaller tea strainers (it's not). Lots of dust and tea particles come out in your sink (which is where you have to start) and then in your tea, no matter how much you try to shake in the sink in advance. Waste of money. Don't do it.

received a similar item, but of a wrong size and made by a different manufacturer. Definitely not of "Heavy duty construction" as it says in the description... Waiting for a resolution

This infuser is much larger than I was expecting! I was looking for an infuser to make sun tea, I don't know if this would fit in my jar. I'll have to try it for making soup or spiced cidar. It would be a good size for large spices, like cinnamon sticks with other spices included. I'm not saying this is a bad infuser, it's just larger than I was expecting.

Lots of tea, lots of debris,

This works great if you have only very large whole tea leaves, but where can you find that? I always have a good amount of small pieces left at the bottom of the pot due to the mesh being so big, necessitating pouring my tea through a finer strainer before serving.

This was way bigger than I had envisioned. It is well made and I've found alternate uses, but I just don't make that much tea at one time.

The title says why I like this infuser so much. It is also very easy to open and close and rinses clean in seconds.
I haven't tried loose tea, but imagine it would be good for that too. Perhaps you would need a smaller screen strainer to catch very fine particles as you pour into pitchers. May I suggest the Bromioli Glass Pitchers, with air tight lids available on Amazon, and at The Container Store, as a great companion to the infuser; especially for making iced tea.Frigoverre Glass Pitcher: 68 Ounce Pitcher

This is a great infuser. I use mine for tea and my mom uses hers for herbs while cooking. We are very happy with our purchase.

I've only used it a few times, but it seems well made and does a great job cooking rice. Make sure you have a tall pot so the ball is totally immersed.
