Product Description

Jump is the story of the oddest sport in America. For almost 100 years, thousands have gathered in Calaveras County to compete for length. The length of their leaping frog. The sport is Frog Jumping . It's not only real, it's been around since 1928. This bizarre story tracks down the origins of this American oddity, which was given birth by Mark Twain. Frog jockeys discuss the sweat and sacrifice they dedicate to this unique athletic passion. We follow triumph and defeat in what is perhaps the most unique American pastime.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like frogs... January 6, 2010
Format:DVD
...you'll love Jump! I saw this at the St. Paul Film Festival awhile ago, and it's great that the "frogumentary" is now available for online order. You have no idea how important frog jumping is until you see this flick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and Heartfelt December 24, 2009
Format:DVD
This movie was so much fun! I laughed out loud and felt a real connection with the people who are so into it. I mean, they are REALLY into it. It's like "Best In Show" but for frogs - and it's real! We read Mark Twain in school but never this particular story about Calaveras County. I'm glad to get the whole picture. It's so great to see that there are still communities that value their regional heritage. The movie makes you want to go to the actual frog jump, which looks like quite a cultural adventure. It's hilarious that just anyone can go and rent a frog and be part of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Slice of Americana January 2, 2010
Format:DVD
A great little "frogumentary"! You really get to know the people whose passion for frog jumping goes back generations. The movie not only takes you to the frog jump but into the lives of these families who spend weeks (or months!) preparing for the big event. We're talking intense amounts of work that goes into the frog capture, selection, and training (of the frog AND of the frog "jockey"). Any frog, Americana, or Mark Twain lover will get a kick out of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calaveras Contest Captured Creatively December 26, 2009
By K. Muir
Format:DVD
Great fun to watch. Justin Bookey has a real talent for capturing everyday humor and interviewing people with a creative touch. Rural California at its most picturesque.
