Vocals From The Gut,
By Kribbit "Kribbit" (Pittsford, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jump Salty (Audio CD)
This earlier release from Pinhead Gunpowder is one of the great examples of the different sounds the memebers of the band bring to the table. The members of the band in 1991 when this album was recorded were Mike Kirsch, Bill Schneider, B.J. Armstrong and Aaron Cometbus. (In future releases Jason White replaced Mike) Mike adds a lyrical growl to the vocals that gives this realease it's originality. This album brings more to the table than just the Green Day connection, it adds in qualities from other SF East Bay band sounds like Monsula, Sawhorse and Fuel (the old now defunct SF East Bay band, not current day Fuel). Check this one out, you won't be disappointed.

Pinhead Gunpowder can't do no wrong. Every album is pretty much gold this album is no exception. I like how Billie Joe and Mike vocals really work together. They are so different that it makes the songs really itersting. This is old school Billie Joe before Kerplunk even.

"jump salty" was the first album i bought of pinhead gunpowder. i was really surprised when i first heard it. it was a lot "harder" than i expected. never the less, i liked it. i liked it a lot. although bj wasn't singing lead, whoever it was (i suspect it was mike, but i don't know) did a great job. one of the songs on the album is a cover of joni mitchell's yellow taxi cab. i liked it and i hope you do, but you won't know until you try.

The best album on Lookout! next to 39/smooth, "Duct Tape Soup" and operation Ivy's "energy"

A Kid's Review

I am a huge Green Day fan and once I heard that Billie Joe was in this band I decided to check this c.d out. And well...THIS C.D RULES!!! To keep the review simple I will say that this is great for any Green Day fan. My favorites on this album are as follows: Future Daydream, Freedom Is,I Wanna, Big Yellow Taxi, Beastly Bit, Bencia By the Bay, MPLS song, and Hey Now. But ...this c.d is younger Billie Joe like from 1991-1992. The only bad thing is this c.d is just over 24 minutes, but it still a masterpiece. And for 8$ it is a steal.BUY THIS C.D!!!

Billie Joe's Side Project,

A must have for any Green Day fan. Imagine Green Day, only grittier and rawer. This album has been a staple in my collection for the past decade and should be a staple in yours. This punk rock super group gets straight to the point. They cut out the fat and all you are left with is the raw power of pumk rock. Listen to this and you understand why Billie Joe is a star.

This is a pretty good album, and a living proof that Green Day after leaving Lookout in 1994 they did not sold out their culos....at least Billy Joe kept their punk influences in a pretty lubricated side-project album with these guys of Pinhead Gunpowder...and he keep supporting the cause with Adeline Records......
