Jumpgate Evolution is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game (MMORPG) and follow-up to the original 2001 PC game, Jumpgate. Set across the vastness of space, three races of humanoids battle amongst themselves and a variety of alien races for supremacy in space-based combat. Features include a character system free of classes, a wide variety of spaceships, in-game voice chat, first and third-person perspective options, a player-driven economy and space-based structures to explore.
Nothing can prepare you for the journey that is unfolding... The Galaxy is in a fragile state, balancing on the brink of war and peace. New threats are emerging from the untouched regions of space that threaten with an iron grip to bring the known inhabitants to their knees. Will you aid your faction when duty calls? Or will you serve your own needs? Will you fight side by side with your comrades in an epic struggle against a hardened, bloodthirsty foe or will you go it alone, facing the perilous dangers as they approach? Do you long for the thrill of combat or do you prefer the call of merchant - always on the look out for a quick, opportune trade. Your decisions are your own, and the rewards are yours for the taking. Gameplay Jumpgate Evolution is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game (MMORPG) set in the open expanse of space in which players utilize jumpgates that connect different sectors. Players' mission is to explore the galaxy and progress from space rookie to elite commander playing as a member of one of three humanoid races: The Quantar, The Solrain and The Octavius. Alien races exist in the gameworld that players can battle. Although the game does contain crafting and trade professions, unlike many MMORPGs, the game does not restrict players to a specific character class. This is meant to promote unrestrictive gameplay. Players have access to a variety of ship types, including haulers, light and heavy combat ships, mining vessels and so on, and continuing with its nonrestrictive approach to gameplay, your choice of ship does not limit your overall gameplay abilities, meaning for instance that although you may choose to be a miner you are not excluded from being able to fly a combat ship if that becomes a want or necessity. Tied to this, players can also own more than one ship at a time, storing them in hangers throughout the game and using each according to the needs of the mission at hand. Regardless of the ship, players each have control of their own vessel and can take advantage of a variety of other non-combat activities. These include mining, manufacturing, hauling, selling and trading products, and of course combat. Combat is "twitch" based, meaning that as piloting skills escalate and equipment upgrades are achieved by rising in the ranks and amassing purchasing power, players face increasing challenges testing their reflexes, precision, tactics, strategy and problem solving skills. Additional features include, in-game voice chat, first and third-person perspective options, a player-driven economy based on mining, transporting, manufacturing, salvaging, and trading, an "auction house" system, and space-based production structures including ore depots, refineries and factories for players to interact with. pre-orders have been cancelled time and time again. The developers of this project (Well, there have been a lot of them) rarely comment on the development of the game except to say that they have no idea when or if it will be released. It is vaporware.
