Finally a title that's not misleading. Jump Blues Essentials has fantastic selections from beginning to end. This album covers all the bases, an almost chronological voyage through jump music. The first few tracks have definite roots in the big-band swing of things. The middle of the album brings you to the prime of rhythm & blues, where the blues meets a dancable jazz, while the last few songs like Hound Dog and Shake, Rattle and Roll show the natural transition of Jump Blues to Rock n' Roll.
