About the Author

Michael Pearl was raised in Memphis, Tennessee by parents who were faithful to point him to God. Mike is a graduate of Crighton College in Memphis. He worked with Memphis Union Mission for 25 years, while he ministered in hospitals and churches to the many military families. God eventually led him into the ministry of writing on child training and family relationships. He now feels this is his life's work and calling. The result of this work led to the formation of No Greater Joy Ministries (NGJ), a 501 (c) (3). The largest project that NGJ has ever been involved in is the Good and Evil Project, a work to translate the Illustrated Bible Storybook Good and Evil into 100 languages. G & E has 10 languages in print, and another 55 languages in the process of being translated or edited.

More About the Author

Michael Pearl was raised in Memphis, Tennessee, in a good home, by parents who were faithful to point him to God. Mike, a graduate of Crighton College in Memphis, has been active in evangelism and the work of the Ministry since he was a teenager.

He worked with Memphis Union Mission for 25 years, while he also ministered in hospitals and churches to the many military families in Memphis. Mike also pastored churches during that period.

About twenty two years ago, Mike and his wife Debi moved to rural Tennessee where they continued in the work by holding Bible studies in local homes, which eventually led to regular meetings of the local body of believers, and the starting of the prison ministry where Mike still ministers every Saturday.

God eventually led them into the ministry of writing on child training and family relationships, which they now feel is their life's work and calling. The result of this work led to the formation of No Greater Joy Ministries (NGJ), a 501(c)(3). The web address is www.nogreaterjoy.org. The largest project that NGJ has ever been involved in is the Good and Evil Project, a work to translate the Illustrated Bible Storybook Good and Evil (G & E) into 100 languages. G & E has 25 languages in print, and another 40 languages in the process of being translated or edited. The book is available in black and white and full color in English and Spanish.

In addition to the child training ministry, the work of the prison ministry, missions, and Bible studies, the Pearls have an active family life. They have been married 37 years; have 5 children, and 14 grandchildren with more on the way.

This book would help not only the parents but anyone who works closely with children and teens, whether they be family, teachers or whatever.

They reportedly used a book written by this author to learn about the torture techniques that led to this child's unspeakable death.

After being very educated, encouraged and edified by this book, I am just baffled at some of the reviews here? I do NOT understand how people are saying this book advocates child abuse?
This book is about how we can relate to our preteens/teens in a joyful and honest way. This book encouraged me to be more open with my child and to share in her life. This book helped me to stop being so wrapped up in my own day that I don't stop,ENJOY and talk to my child.
How is this abuse?
(shaking head)
I have really missed something there.
Perhaps they are reading a different book than the one listed here?
They are really quite mistaken.

This is all about control. Pin those kids under your big hairy thumb and never let them experience the world except through your eyes. Again, Michael Pearl playing God, telling Christian families to shelter kids and wash their brains out with soap daily - heaven forbid they have an independent thought! Another vile text from the Patriachal Pastor that brought you "how to humiliate, degrade and beat your children into submission"

The Pearls advocate hitting children .. even babies of just a few months old. They have no love, no empathy and are NOT speaking for God or the Bible. They really are speaking for 'the other side' - Christ warned us NOT to hurt such as these ie children and told us it would be better for us to have a millstone tied about our necks and thrown into the ocean if we did. So .. where EXACTLY does Michael or Debbie Pearl get their horrible, un Christian ideas from? I am still waiting for them to quote Christ in the Bible chapter and verse where he tells us to hit/spank enrage our children - they can't of course because Christ never did any such thing.

Keep clear of their books ...

This is a must read for parents of teens and children of all ages. It really helps to open our eyes to what we mistakenly do to help cause our older children to turn away from their families. Even our best efforts to keep and protect our children is what pushes them away at times. I loved this book and have heard many people I know give praise for the help they too have received in the the loving, honest words in this book! Just love the way Michael and Debi Pearl give truthful insight and help to today's families! This book would help not only the parents but anyone who works closely with children and teens, whether they be family, teachers or whatever.

All I can say is that if every Christian parent (homeschooling or not) read this book and applied even half of it, the 75% of children who were raised in strong homes and in the church who leave their faith once they leave home would be slowed to a CRAWL. My husband and I have children of various ages, and things in our home began to change nearly overnight, and continued with daily changes that we could hardly have imagined. (our leaning-toward-rebellion teen suddenly folded my laundry, and cleaned the kitchen completely on her own, just being nice! Her heart is changing too, she talks to us differently, shares things she has clammed up for months...) Parenting became a joy again, and we could not believe how blind we had been. Furthermore, applying what they suggest is even FUN and may bring joy and enthusiasm back into your life that you forgot you had lost~ long ago. It is a VERY short book and quick read, convicting, but also gives so much hope. I pray this book does even half as much for you as it did for us, and even with that, you would see a miracle. (P.S. you may want to buy many copies because you will want to share it with everyone you know! It's that amazing.)

Michael Pearl tells parents to start spanking their children in young infancy. Then after being hit for just about everything (basically being a child gets you spanked under Pearl's teachings), if your children don't meet his version of "godliness," it's your fault. Pearl has NO understanding of God's amazing grace nor child development. As an early childhood professional AND a Christian, I cannot recommend any of Pearl's books to parents, especially since three children have been murdered by parents trying to implement Pearl's abusive techniques with their children.

This is an excellent book! You want to know why so many "Christian" kids turn away as they reach high school, college, young adult age? Read this book! And see how this devastation can be avoided! I know so many family's whose children would greatly benefit from Jumping Ship. Parents want the best for the children. Sometimes things can be overlooked and/or there is blindness in areas that is hurtful to your child. Do not allow yourself to be oblivious to those things which cause children to "jump ship." They are preventable.
