This review is from: Jumping on the West Coast (Audio CD)
These are great small band sides recorded in 1947 before the Petrillo recording ban took effect. Labels would stockpile band recordings to issue during the ban. Buddy Tate, a Basie sideman at the time recorded these fine blues and swing tunes using some of the best musicians around at the time. On piano there are Jay McShann or Bill Doggett; on trumpet Emmet Berry, also with Basie at the time, and the great Jimmy Witherspoon on a few of the vocals. Buddy had a long and successful career and these are some of his best small band sides. Enjoy!
