Jump Start cd's, December 20, 2008
This review is from: Jumpstart 3D Virtual World - My First Adventure [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I was very disappointed after paying $10 each for 2 cds. I cannot use them unless I buy a subscription! Somewhere they should let you know that before you buy.
I cannot return as I opened them both.
However, they did look like fun if only I could use them.

Best Educational Game For Kids, January 20, 2009
This review is from: Jumpstart 3D Virtual World - My First Adventure [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
First off...I admit I was "fooled" by the box as well. You can only play one level of the game and then you have to "subscribe" (for $79 per year or if you search online for a promo code you can get it for $59 per year) to do the other levels. I was really upset when I realized this.
That said...it is TRULY the BEST educational game for kids I have EVER seen. Better than school (yes, better than school) and better than a parent can teach. And YES..it is worth every dime. And if you own more than one Jumpstart game like I do (I have the preschool and kindergarden ones)then the subscription is for all the games you own...and you can play games online.
In all of the Jumpstart 3D games your child gets to choose a character and sometimes dress them (think SIMS). Then they use either the mouse or arrow keys to maneuver the character around a 3D world. You child earns "gems" by completing learning games (that are nothing short of astounding) and helping frinds. After they complete 12 learning games, a new "land" or "area" opens up for the kids to explore and they have all new "quests" and "learning games" to complete. Kids can use their gems to buy decorations for their house, take care of a virtual pet (they have to buy the pet food/water/shampoo and take care of them) and also sometimes buy things for other characters. It really helps the kids learn about spending and saving. And did I mention the learning games? My 4 year old is doing charts and graphs and both of my kids are learning to read. They truly are nothing short of astounding.
I HIGHLY recommend this product. Yes, I do think the company is sneaky about getting people to buy the product and tricks them into getting a subscription. They need to be honest. They have nothing to be shady about because this game is worth the price they ask. I will continue to use their 3-D products.
