4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the basics, but not of the two currently supported versions., October 6, 2009

This review is from: Jumpstart 4D (Paperback)
This is a great book for the basics of 4D. It includes a CD of a demo program and sample databases. Unfortunately, it covers version 6.7, which is obsolete- the only currently supported versions are 2004 and v11 SQL. And 4D has announced it will no longer support v2004. Still, many things you will learn from this book and v6.7 will transfer to later editions. Now if only someone will write a beginners book for v11 SQL.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great beginner book!, May 15, 2002

This review is from: Jumpstart 4D (Paperback)
This book is ideal for those who are new to databases. You will learn the basics: creating tables, forming relationships, simple scripting (called methods in 4D) and more. My only complaint is it stops short of what a person needs to complete a useful database. When you finish the book, don't be suprised if you start asking more questions than when you started. This book may be "jumpstart" 4D, but you'll soon be looking for "using" 4D.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting Started in GUI Database Design, March 19, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Jumpstart 4D (Paperback)
If you have NEVER programmed in a graphical environment, then Jumpstart 4D is for you. It will give you the basics in layout and design and how to build a project from the ground up. The author is also noted for being the Editor of Dimensions Magazine, the Worldwide Journal for 4D programmers. Yet, fear not, the verbage in Jumpstart 4D is for the beginning user with instruction in terminology as well. So get Jumpstart 4D and Jump into the wonderful world of Database Design.
