I was skeptical when purchasing this book, of course. Upon reading it, I started paying attention to my breathing, and couldn't believe how often I was holding my breath and not breathing at all. I've become much more conscious about it, and when I notice that I'm holding my breath, usually when under stress, I do some of Pam's exercises.

I bought this book last year at Barnes & Nobles. I first read the book many times for a few months. I could hardly believe that proper and profound breathing would help me in losing weight. I was skeptical when purchasing this book, of course. Upon reading it, I started paying attention to my breathing, and couldn't believe how often I was holding my breath and not breathing at all. I've become much more conscious about it, and when I notice that I'm holding my breath, usually when under stress, I do some of Pam's exercises.

The benefit? The weight is literally falling off. Although I am dieting, I am doing the same diet as pre-Pam. Before I read this book, I could not lose ANY weight, no matter how "good" I was. Now, doing the same diet, I have been losing 2-3 pounds per week, and without much exercise. I've lost over 20 lbs, and have about 25 more to go, and am confident I will reach that goal very soon. I'm almost worried that I'm losing too fast! You must try this book if you are sick of dieting without results!

If you are looking for another "quick fix" or miracle cure for weight loss you will not find it here. What you will find is sound principles that work as a great tool in your arsenal against premature aging and weight gain. I toned up and lost inches by following Ms. Grout's simple exercises and learning this only enhanced any other workout or eating program I tried. Its a great tool, that may get overlooked. I recommend it highly.

Ms. Grout's book is a quick read with a very down-to-earth tone. I have very much enjoyed incorporating her breathing techniques into my life - for example, several of her "cocktails" and deep breathing techniques are great when feeling stressed on the job, and can be done in a crowded room with no odd looks. While I know that my weight loss (35 pounds so far) is a result of new eating and exercise habits, the "Grout" breathing has become a wonderful addition to my routine - very stress-relieving and energizing! Nice work, Pam!

I just bought this book a couple of weeks ago. It was a strange concept: "re-learning" how to breathe. I followed the exercises (or "cocktails" as Ms. Grout calls them) and I have lost weight and inches and my energy has really picked up! Ms. Grout's writing style is very upbeat and familiar. It's like she is a family member or a best friend. That makes this book a fun read! I have given this book to family and friends, I think it is a little gold mine. Losing a dress size or more without sweating? Without sore muscles? It's true!

I bought this book as a last resort after being absolutely fed up with starving myself and other such things with no lasting result. Even after the first day of doing this program, my lethargy is gone, my posture is better, I feel stronger and more energetic. I find myself dancing and singing in the shower as I do these exercises! I am definitely losing weight, but even if I weren't, I would still do this program; it gives me a new outlook on my day. An added bonus: I'm a trained singer, and these exercises work wonders for breath control! If there is one weight loss book you buy, make it this one. It's not only about losing weight; it's about becoming an overall healthy human being, and that's something anyone can appreciate.

I was given this book in 1996. I thought it was stupid. But after reading it I decided to give it a try. I did lose weight and seemed to have more energy. I still do the main breathing exercise daily. This is a strange little book. But it gives results. I would recommend it to anyone who dislikes exercise and could use more energy.

I've tried numerous diet pills, all kinds of cardiovascular exercise which I found hard on my knees, and I've even gone and done the Yoga and Pilates thing. The exercises in this book, especially the bikini breath, were amazing. I was skeptical, but I was in the dressing rooms one day with my normal size and brand of clothes, and they were all either too loose, or I just seemed longer and leaner in them. I have lost pounds and gained energy. Great buy!

This information is great! It helped to increase my metabolism, but more then that, it helped to lower my blood pressure and increase my stamina. While exercising, it helped to control my breath and the increased oxygen helps to flush out lactic acid, thus virtually eliminating sore muscles when used correctly. I love it! This is actually a replacement for my first one that I loaned out and never got back, that's how good it is! Trust me to say that this one will never be loaned out!

I'm giving this book five stars to make up for those people who unfairly gave it one. This book IS scientifically sound, as I have found evidence in medical texts to back up the theory. Besides, who cares, as long as it works. IT WORKS!
