Editorial Reviews

June Bronhill was one of the greatest and most colourful stars Australia produced in the last century. A warm, witty and glamorous personality blessed with a glorious coloratura soprano voice, impeccable diction and charisma to spare, June endeared herself to audiences throughout Britain and Australia. Small of stature she may have been but when she was on a stage she certainly commanded attention. She was a diva with the common touch. She never forgot her Australian roots and frequently returned to her homeland for opera, musical and concert engagements. ‘Liquid gold in vocal form' was how one critic described June's voice and on this three CD set that gold is in plentiful supply, displaying the artistry of a much-loved ambassador for Australia - June Bronhill. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Jeff Raymond on July 29, 2011
I grew up knowing of June Bronhill as a very saucy & entertaining mature guest on Australian talk & game-shows. So it comes as a surprise to discover through this Cd what a very fine vocal & dramatic artist she was. This 3 disk set gives a good overview of her major career highlights and showcases her perfect diction and bell like voice mostly displayed in Operetta or light Opera mode. I would say from my lay-mans opinion that she was suited to this form chiefly because of her natural effervescence and wit that comes through in these recordings. Technically there seems no question she could have handled serious opera. The selections contain much melodic, beautiful, rousing and emotional music. The selections on Disk two from The Sound of Music & The King & I, signal the beginning of Junes voice acquiring a slightly harsher tone with age, but this is by far the least interesting part of the collection. Cd number 3 concludes with a selection of Christian Hymns that came as an unexpected pleasure, how many times have we heard recordings of 'Ave Maria'?, how many times have I heard it sung as hauntingly as this? Sound quality throughout is excellent with the sound levels appearing consistent despite being recorded at different times & locations.
