5.0 out of 5 stars Jung and Yoga, January 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Jung and Yoga: The Psyche-Body Connection (Studies in Jungian Psychology By Jungian Analysts, 94) (Paperback)
This book is an in-depth study of the parallels between yoga practices and Jungian analysis, and the implications of both for spiritual and psychological growth. It is an eminently practical approach to the subject that, on the one hand, focuses on the understanding of Jung's ideas as they may be experienced through bodywork, and, on the other, offers a new psychologicsl perspective to practitioners of bodywork.
Many of us have endured a life not-yet-lived. In the mysterious place between the opposites, previously hidden energy brings psyche and body together, uniting them in the sacred union that gives birth to new consciousness and the gift of a life fully lived.

4.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD BOOK, October 27, 2002

"jordofilm" (Rhinebeck, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jung and Yoga: The Psyche-Body Connection (Studies in Jungian Psychology By Jungian Analysts, 94) (Paperback)
Interesting thesis. This book gave me a lot to think about. I really enjoyed it. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I want to discourage folks who are unfamiliar with jungian concepts from picking this right up. Start with a Marie Louis von Franz book (such as THE INTERPRETATION OF FAIRY TALES) so that you get some grounding in Jungian vocabulary. Afterwards, this book will be a little tough to follow, but if you stick it out you'll gain alot. The book is pretty esoteric although well organized and well written. If its Yoga you're interested in, Harris explains how you can use the technique of amplification to interpret the imagery in the asanas (postures) in order to gain psychological insight which will help you to add a mind-body connection to your yoga practice. If you are into Jung and not Yoga, well then, I don't know what you are waiting for, go take some yoga classes, then read this book.
