5.0 out of 5 stars an observation of neglect from the King of Egoists!, March 11, 2007

"Junge Roemer" (Young Romans) could be interpreted as a negative observation concerning the erosion of Western European culture if you ignore the video presentation of the opening track. Falco's exploration of Euro nightlife gives you an unsettling view of how shallow Europeans are, or would become in a world dominated by Ronald Reagan's rhetoric. When he sings; "we meet, we find, we search what is happening, but don't look for values, but rather sensations" really hammers home the youth thought process of the 80's. Which doesn't appear to be very attractive at all when you consider that this is the generation that will be ruling the planet in the very near future. Forget about everything that is wrong in the world...let's go clubbing instead because "the night is ours until the morning". The logic being; we'll sleep off our buzz and start all over again...or, who cares about a maxed out Visa, it's just plastic...get another one. Skip responsibility, which Falco was always damn good at. His blatant recklessness will always be sorely missed in that regard.

Falco's 1984 release is actually more of an extension of his first release, the classic "Einzelhaft" which contained the hits "Auf Der Flucht" (On The Run) and the mega-smash hit "Der Kommissar" (which was also covered by "After The Fire", thus making it a hit two times over). Whats strange is how underrated and under appreciated Junge Roemer is here in the US. Although Falco really could'nt be considered a one hit wonder in the United States, listeners really don't know anything about him before or beyond "Falco 3" (which contained the smash "Rock Me Amadeus" and the top 20 "Vienna Calling"). Even more disturbing is how superior Young Romans is compared to "3", or his "Greatest Hits" for that matter. Every track on Young Romans is worth several repeat performances, most notably; the title track, "Ihre Tochter" (Your Daughter) & "Nur Mit Dir" (Only With You), which can't be said about his most popular release (the aforementioned third). Slick, smooth, sophisticated and always in fashion. Young Romans remains a poignant statement and a relevant find in Falco's catolog of overlooked gems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Falco -- zeitgeist of the 80s, January 17, 2001

The cool european cut tuxedo, the clean, sophisticated dance music -- this is the classic Falco of the 1980s. Rich instrumentation and techno riffs combine with funky German/English rap ballads to create Europe's 1984 answer to Sinatra's Rat Pack of the 1960s. Junge Roemer (young Romans) is the hit that has been reinterpreted consistently over the years by DJs and is still fresh. Critics and fans agree that this is FALCO's high water mark artistically, if not in terms of units sold. Young Romans refers to the name given by Germans to their generation of "Yuppies."

I have really enjoyed my recent purchase from Amazon. I have been a big fan of Falco, and have probably gotten to become a bigger fan since his death 10 years ago. This CD has become a great asset to my Falco collection. Thanks for keeping his memory and music alive!

This is the best of FALCO (though nobody understood him when it appeared long time ago) If you love him you must buy it.There's no waste: excellent music and melodies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Even I get it!, July 30, 2000
This review is from: Junge Roemer (Audio CD)
The general tone in this work is upbeat, and the brass lends it brightness. I like it for reasons that may not matter to too many others: the low note on the word "dann", rising on "und zwar"; I enjoy the lyrics, because even with my little bit of German, I follow some of the word play and can anticipate some of the rhymes. The phrase "ungeheuer neues Feuer" puts me in a good mood no matter how many times I hear it. And what could possibly complete the phrase "die Antwort ihne --" in a way that rhymes with "alle Tage"? Hey, even I get it!
