The Jungian Tarot,
By
This review is from: The Jungian Tarot and Its Archetypal Imagery (Jungian Tarot Trilogy) (Paperback)
This is a "must have" book for people studying the tarot. I am familiar with several of Robert Wang's books, and think that this is one of his best, and that his introduction to Jungian psychology is the clearest and most simple explanation of Jung's ideas that I have ever encountered. It is also a really good history of tarot that is well-documented. What he has done, essentially, is to collect similar mythological ideas under the the tarot cards to which they relate. The work not only demonstrates the similarities of most mythologies and religions but it tends to underscore Jung's assertion that the characters of these pantheons are really "archetypes" which we all share. At first I was a bit put off by the extent to which this is a very scholarly book, but I was surprised at how easily it reads, and how it really opened doors of understanding.

Give deeper meaning to all tarot,

This review is from: The Jungian Tarot and Its Archetypal Imagery (Jungian Tarot Trilogy) (Paperback)
I find that the book and cards give a whole new depth to all the tarot decks major arcana. It gives good insight into the archetypes at work in the tarot. This is a traditional pips based deck, so is all about the Major Arcana rather than the whole deck. So if you are looking for a book that covers all the cards, this is not for you. I do find it good for insights into the other decks, but not a deck I would do a reading with.

Critics Don't Get It ! ! !,

This review is from: The Jungian Tarot and Its Archetypal Imagery (Jungian Tarot Trilogy) (Paperback)
Brilliant! The intelligent correspondences between Tarot, religion, and mythology are unique and welcome in a field where insubstantial books are the norm. Those few who have criticized this deck clearly do not "get it." The pictures have helped me to understand Jung's psychology.
I just became aware that this is part of a three-book trilogy which includes: Tarot Psychology: Handbook for the Jungian Tarot, and Perfect Tarot Divination and a card deck The Jungian Tarot Deck.

This review is from: The Jungian Tarot and Its Archetypal Imagery (Jungian Tarot Trilogy) (Paperback)
This book is volume 2 of Wang's trilogy on the Jungian Tarot, and I feel that this book is the best one of the 3. He starts off the book with a brief explanation of some of the theories of Jungian Psychology, and how they relate to the Tarot. He then goes on to discuss the cards of the Major Arcana, and how they relate to some of the psychological principles theorized by Carl Jung. Wang sets forth a few different ideas as to the meanings and interpretations for each of the cards. He will also sometimes speak about certain psychological principles and theories. He does not give a definitive meaning for each of the cards, but encourages the reader to use his/her imagination, in understanding and interpreting each of the cards. The reader is to meditate on each card. Wang "wets your whistle"( a term meaning to give a little, to arouse your interest to seek more), and invites you to dive into the cards, to ascertain their meanings, I only wish that he would have written a book like this relating to the cards of the Minor Arcana.

I am also familiar with several of Robert Wang's books, and think that The Jungian Tarot is one of his best; it is definitive and well-written.

I think this is a wonderful book for anyone who wants a very viable theory underlying the tarot. Wang offers a very clear understanding of Jungian theory; he has it down pat!

Only partially covers Jungian Tarot deck,

I thought this would be the companion book to the Jungian Tarot cards also by Wang but unfortunately it only includes information on the major arcana. And although it is quite detailed I would have liked some information on the minor arcana, I guess you have to buy another book?

This book was a disappointment to me due to the lack of staying with one train of thought. The author is all over the lot. I was hoping to receive information about each card that would give me a way of using the deck itself. That was not forthcoming.
