Another charmer from Salisbury,
By
This review is from: Jungle Dogs (Paperback)
I've now read three Salisbury books, and they were all marvelous. I'll be a fan of his for a long time. "Jungle Dogs," like his award-winning "Under the Blood-Red Sun" and his acclaimed debut, "Blue Skin of the Sea," takes place in Hawaii and focuses on a boy's conflicts while growing up. Like those other two works -- "Blue Skin," incidentally, is a real delight -- "Dogs" is beautifully written, with a potent sense of time and place and a wide range of human emotions and experience. It also has uncannily authentic dialog and several moments of hit-me-in-the-gut poignancy. I strongly recommend ANY Salisbury work; I can't wait to get my hands on his latest, "Shark Bait."

R.J.'s Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jungle Dogs (Paperback)
This book is a great book and I would recommend it to all ages. I really liked the way the author kept you interested and focused throughout the story. This story takes place in Hawaii, near the ocean. The book is about a kid named Boy who gets caught up in gang violence and trying to do good in school and at home. His brother, Damon, is in a gang called the Kudas and they get mixed up with Crowboy's gang. Then Crowboy's brother, Gabriel, wants to beat up Boy. My favorite part was when Boy and Gabriel finally resolved their situation, but Crowboy and Damon did not. Find out what it will take to finally resolve the conflict between Damon and Crowboy. The least favorite part I liked was when Gabriel and Boy were fighting. It was stupid for them to be getting into battle when it was not necessary. I would read another book by Graham Salisbury because he has the skill to get you interested in what your reading and he has great action in his books. Also, Salisbury's book, Blue Skin of the Sea, won Bank Street Child Association Children's Book Award, the PEN/ Norma Klein Award, the Judy Lopez award, and the Oregon Book Award. He is a great author and I look forward to reading more books from him.

Jungle Dog's Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jungle Dogs (Paperback)
Jungle Dogs, by Graham Salisbury. An adventurous story about a young boy and his struggling family. Boy Regis a sixth grade resident in a Hawaiian village loves his family, and even his punk brother Damon. But he's more than terrified of the vicious wild dogs that lurk in the jungle. There are some specific events, like when Boy becomes tired of running and fearlessly delivers the paper, every bit aware of the near-by jungle dogs. Another would be when his enemy tells him the location of Damon's next fight, which could be a life or death situation. Now the setting lye's in a steamy tropical village, surrounded by jungle, in Hawaii right on the coast. The coast is eventually Damon's final fight spot. Right from the start there is a conflict with Damon and the family. You see, Damon was always sneaking out around midnight ruining others belongings, and fighting. That is finally resolved at the last fight, where Boy comes and stands up to Crow Boy, Damon's enemy. Though he's easily pushed aside, Then their father comes and he's not as easily scared off. Crow Boy and his gang finally surrender, and Damon goes home a changed man. Now the family is doing just fine, and that's why I liked this book, that even through failure the characters managed to pull through and make it a happy ending.

Jungle Dogs,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jungle Dogs (Paperback)
Jungle Dogs is a really good book. It is about this kid whose nickname is boy, his brother Damien is in a gang that watch's for his brother. His best friend Zeke is always getting picked on by Moose and Gabriel. Gabriel's older brother named Crow Boy watches out for his brother to. So Crow Boy and Damien, were enemies. They were going to fight Boy and Gabriel teamed up and made a plan so they won't fight. That's my favorite part. Also Boy is a delivery boy. He starts off on a dirt road he is scared of jungle dogs, this is one of Damien's friends that told him that there were jungle dogs in the woods. I recommend this book to every one; if we had to grade this book 1-5,I would give it a 5.

Salisbury has done it again,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jungle Dogs (Paperback)
I really like this book because it has a lot of adventure in it. It starts out with this kid that has no name so the people just call him boy. His brother's name is Damon. Boy hangs around Damon all the time. They go on a lot of adventures together. The adventures they go on usually means trouble. Their dad delivers newspapers. Boy went with his dad one time to deliver them. They come up to this long road that is surrounded by Trees. Boy didn't want to go back there because he was afraid that the jungle dogs might attack him. His mom and dad never believed him. I would really recommend this book to anyone.

Jungle Dogs, by Graham Salisbury, is a boring story about a young boy and his struggling family. Boy Regis, a sixth grade resident in a Hawaiian village, loves his family, and even his punk brother, Damon. But he's more than terrified of the vicious wild dogs that are in the jungle. I didn't like this book much because it was boring. I recommend this book for kids from 9-12.
