Great Read,

This is a great book. The first part is so funny, I had tears from laughing. The rest of the book is so informative and relates the passion and love Jack Hanna and his family has for animals.

Updated Version of Monkeys on the Interstate,
This review is from: Jungle Jack: My Wild Life (Hardcover)
I gave the book 4 stars because it is very nicely done and I love Jack Hanna but...if you already own "Monkeys On the Interstate" I would wait to get the book at a much reduced price. The writing is updated and there is newer information and pictures but it is the basically the same book.

A must for every age,

"Jungle Jack: My Wild Life" has got to be one of the funniest books I have ever read. If you have ever been to a zoo, you will find Jack Hanna's new book not only informative, but one of the best commedies you will ever read! I ride the bus to and from work, an hour each way, so I read a lot of books. I was getting some of the strangest looks when I was reading Jack's book because I would bust out laughing, almost to tears. A "tip of the hat" to Jack Hanna for all of the great work he is doing for zoo's everywhere.

This book is very similar to Jack's book, Monkeys on the Interstate. I read my sister's copy years ago and loved it. It is a really a good story, especially since I grew up seeing the transformation of the zoo (my hometown is Columbus). I bought a copy for myself, to have Jack Hannah sign at an event where he made an appearance.

I was so excited to see that Jack Hanna (one of my idols) had written another non-fiction book for adults. I discovered "Monkeys on the Interstate", his first memoir from the late 1980's, a few years ago at our local library and I loved it. Sadly, more than half the content in this book is lifted almost word for word from that first tome. Granted, the first book covered such a large portion of his life that he would have to retell some of the stories, but he brings no new light to the retold tales. Some of the stories that would have taken up several pages in the first book are condensed to a few choppy paragraphs, which also causes frustration. I know there's more to the story, but Hanna just isn't giving it.I did enjoy reading the more up-to-date portions of this book, which include his television shows (Emmy winners!) and his travels to Rwanda. He had covered a bit of a journey to the country in "Monkeys on the Interstate", describing a trek to see the critically endangered mountain gorillas of the region. Now Hanna and his family have apparently developed a special relationship with the Rwandan people, spending time with President Kagame and even building a house there in which to stay on their visits. All in all, I enjoyed the book because of the fun stories and Hanna's pleasant narrative style. The addition of several color photos was also a plus. I am glad that I received this book as a gift, though, instead of paying full price for it. If I had, I think I would be a little frustrated with myself for paying for so much of a book that I already have.

This is a great book. It will educate you, entertain you, make you laugh, and maybe even make you a little teary eyed. This is easily the best autobiography I have ever read and this book further validated my respect and affection for Jack Hanna.

I lived in Columbus, OH at the time when Jack Hanna was the Zoo director and watched an old outdated zoo become an amazing habitat zoo. The animals went from small crowded iron bar cages to open wild habitat environments. Wonderful. We had a family zoo memebership and we were at the zoo freqently--in all seasons. My son even atteneded a children's day camp there one summer. My children were so used toseeing Jack wandering around the zoo that they felt like they knew him and would run to him. He always welcomed their hugs. Love this book. Admire the man.

I was greatly entertained by this book! As a Jungle Jack fan for many years, and having visited the Columbus Zoo many times, this book provided a lot of entertainment and laughs for me. It also provided a lot of insight into Jack's life, personally and professionally. I found it very interesting.
