Jungle Juice, September 21, 2010
This review is from: Jungle Juice (DVD)
This is one of those low-budget gems nobody ever heard of, or has expectations for, but turns out to be really good and funny too. It's basically a gangster movie around a dope deal that goes wrong. The plot is simple, and it's fun to watch the characters as everything screws up. There's not really anything shocking or explicit (it's funny rather than bad taste), but the DVD cover promises "drugs, alcohol, sex, fighting, nudity, explosions, shootings, and prostitution" and the movie delivers all of it, plus what the ratings systems like to call "strong language". To the director's credit, he keeps the action going and the acting straightforward. If you like Jang Hyuk and are interested in his evolution, you might consider this movie as a point of origen rather than the disappointing "Volcano High" (a missed opportunity by that director and scriptwriter if there ever was one). Even though "Jungle Juice" was shot before Jang Hyuk started his bodybuilding (if you saw the 2010 "Chuno"/"Slavehunters" you know), this movie shows his potential. As usual, avoid the dubbing in English--they should quit doing that anyway, everybody hates it--choose Korean language with subtitles.
