5.0 out of 5 stars Some birds cannot resist the Talk 'n Play Phone
Customer Video Review     Length:: 0:43 Mins
Watch Buddy at play with one of these little gadgets, and you'll see that the bird forgets about everything else in the world, just for those few moments. Buddy gets rough with it, and he eventually broke the mirror on one of them, but the mirror is plastic, not glass, so I don't see a problem there. The only danger I would anticipate would be...

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Parrots can Break This Toy Easily
ROSCOE, my big male blue and gold macaw, is a large male bird and destroys any toy he gets. Immediately, he loved this toy because of the large buttons, flashing lights, and pre-recorded sounds/phrases: HELLO!; I LOVE YOU!; [laughing sounds]; and another phrase we can't understand. However, the first thing ROSCOE did is to try to split the toy in two, which he...

Watch Buddy at play with one of these little gadgets, and you'll see that the bird forgets about everything else in the world, just for those few moments. Buddy gets rough with it, and he eventually broke the mirror on one of them, but the mirror is plastic, not glass, so I don't see a problem there. The only danger I would anticipate would be if you mount the toy to the side or top of a cage, because the vigorous grabbing and playing could cause the toy to swing back and hit the bird. I decided to leave the phone loose to prevent that happening. It's hard to tell whether Buddy hates it with a passion or if he is just playing. Birds do get totally involved in games just as kids do, and Buddy's feathers display the same way when we are playing tug of war with old socks or old feathers, or even playing catch with socks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Parrots can Break This Toy Easily, November 4, 2011

ROSCOE, my big male blue and gold macaw, is a large male bird and destroys any toy he gets. Immediately, he loved this toy because of the large buttons, flashing lights, and pre-recorded sounds/phrases: HELLO!; I LOVE YOU!; [laughing sounds]; and another phrase we can't understand. However, the first thing ROSCOE did is to try to split the toy in two, which he successfully would have until I stopped him. Thus, my advice for customers with large and strong parrots, including macaws, is to watch and monitor playtime with this VERY COOL toy -- because, while it is designed for large parrots with its big buttons, it can be easily cracked in half like a big red nut. Right now, ROSCOE is calling to me so that I will play with the new toy again -- he loves it!

POST SCRIPT [THREE DAYS LATER]: My macaw broke off the mirror and then yanked out the inner wiring within two minutes of unmonitored playtime. This toy is broken and now in the trash, but it was fun for three days. WAS IT WORTH EIGHT DOLLARS?!

My African Grey speaks perfect English. I can't understand what this toy is saying. He likes the noise but is confused. Doesn't interest him as much as his "Litle Tikes" toys. Seems like if you go to the trouble to make a toy, you could spend more attention on sound quality. This toy was make by someone who doesn't know a thing about birds!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and Communicating!, August 25, 2011
This review is from: Jungle Talk Talk 'N Play Phone - Large Bird (Misc.)
We have two Parakeets and two Love Birds. They love it! At 7:30, they contact me to come and feed them for the fresh dinner and at 8:25, they remind me to turn off the large light because the automatic light and radio will be going off. Lately, Juliet, the Love Bird has been constantly playing it. It's great!!!!

I have two large birds and they play with this toy non-stop keeping themselves entertained. It's wonderful to see them busy enjoying themselves.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good idea for larger birds, January 12, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jungle Talk Talk 'N Play Phone - Large Bird (Misc.)
While this may be a good idea for smaller birds, that wasn't the case for my Catalina Macaw. At first we thought she actually liked it, because she would press the buttons every day. Then we realized she was actually trying to take it apart. She wasn't actually successful in taking it completely apart, but she was able to take the batteries out. Luckily, my daughter was able to get them away from her before she could swallow them. Now she doesn't even pay attention to it and I regret buying it. So for those of you thinking about buying this, I wouldn't suggest actually getting it unless you're getting it for a smaller bird. However, if you do buy it for a larger bird just make sure you watch him/her whenever he/she plays with it so that they can't take it apart.

It only took an hour for my two pet starlings to start playing with this toy. You never know with them if they'll like a new toy. Sometimes they play with it right away, sometimes it takes months! First they were attracted to the mirror, then within a couple of hours they were pressing buttons. They love things with buttons anyway so I thought they'd go for this and I was right!

My African Grey loves this thing... For the beating it takes it's holding up very well. It can be a bit obnoxious so I don't leave it in his cage 24/7

It took her a few tries to get the hang of it, but our 8 year-old umbrella cockatoo surprised herself when she finally discovered what the buttons do. Now, she loves to climb on the outside of her cage and reach in to make the phone talk to her.
