5.0 out of 5 stars Junior Brain Trainer
I bought this game for my 6 year old last Christmas and it was one of his favorite games. We worked together and had a great time as he answered the questions. We need more games like this for our kids.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too difficult
This is supposedly for kids ages 5-12 or so, but the expectation is that the child has an understanding of things like multiplication and advanced spelling. There is no way to select a difficulty level, and the game is far too advanced for the younger end of its target audience.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Junior" Brain Trainer???, February 26, 2010

I had some high hopes for this game, graduating my kids from their leapsters to ds and losing the educational value of the games I was looking for something along these lines. I read the back of the game, adjustable difficulty level for ages 5-11. I had also bought the Junior classic games at the same time which is age rated for 4-9. I have a 4-year old and a gifted 7-year old. My seven year old might get something from the game, but when I plugged in my 4 year old's age I expected the play level to be equivalent to pre-k and K math. Imagine my surprise when the first task is complete the multiplication table. 6x6; 10x3, 5x4, etc... In hopes that it wasn't a complete waste of money, I completed the table only to get stuck on another level of fill in the missing letters. Not too bad when there is only one letter missing, but near impossible when there are only two letters on a long word. I gave up, which makes me slightly embarrassed to admit. I pulled out the hand book to see if I had missed something about the adjustable levels but did not see anything indicating what I could have done different. So yes, it turns out that it was a complete waste of my money. I will see if my 7 year old has any better luck but I doubt it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Where is the adjustable difficulty, April 19, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

Just bought this for my 7 year old. NO matter whether you set the age on 3 or 30 you still have to do multiplication tables I don't know many 5-7 year olds who know their multiplication tables. Now granted if he keeps guessing he can get it but where is the learning in that. And then the game where you are suppose to "draw" the picture isn't actually drawing at all it is plotting points, boring. My son kept wanting to play my Brain Age game so I got this thinking it would be more his level but now I'm thinking should have just let him played brain age. I was debating between this and big brain academy now wishing I'd went the other way.

1.0 out of 5 stars definitely not age appropriate, February 26, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

We just bought this game yesterday. My son is 5. You register a player according to their gender and age first then you start. I thought the fact that I put that my son is 5 will adjust the difficulty level but it didnt seem to matter because the questions that you have to go through first are definitely not for 5 year olds and that is what the description of the game says on the cover. The level cannot be adjusted. My son's questions were to spell such words as "birthday", "balloon", "hand', "soup" and some word even I as an adult dont know the definition of. Also the words that he would spell correctly are not pronounced, so if the child is just guessing the spelling like in our case, he wont even know what word he just spelled. That was discouraging for my child, which I hated the most of this experience. I think this time it was a waste of money and it didnt meet my expectations.
I have to help him with almost every question to unlock the games and it happens kind of slowly. Now he only has the snake game and the question to unlock the rest of the games are getting only harder. I would not recommend buying it for young children like 5-7 years old. May be for older kids even then it is not interactive enough.

I bought this game based on the pictures on the back cover and the description. It is supposed to have an "adjustable difficulty for ages 5-11." I set this for my 5 year old and the games were way too hard. I am 34 and I had a little trouble with one game. You were supposed to complete the word and were given p-----l and were given about twelve letters to guess. I only got it through trial and error and I am sure a child who is 5 would not have guessed it and probably is not familiar with the word. Another game required children to match large numbers with their written word (168 with one hundred sixty-eight). Other times the instructions were very vague. There is also to much reading required for small children. I am an elementary teacher and these activities are not appropriate for 5-year olds and probably not any child in Kindergarten through second grade. There was only one activity I found out of about 25 that I thought was appropriate for my son.

There are extras that are only available after completing five levels but only available once a day. I thought the game might be useful if I could unlock all the games for him but only was allowed to unlock one which had no instructions for play.

I do not recommend this game for anyone under age 8 and possibly not even that age.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!, February 8, 2010

I bought this game for my intelligent 6-year-old daughter. I thought she would be able to play hangman and some other age-appropriate games. however, everything is locked! It looks like you can only unlock one new game a day, and unlocking a game requires you to successfully go through several screens of puzzles. Most of them are incredibly simple, except for the page of multiplication! And not even easy problems - 9x7, etc.! And you can't do anything else until you get the whole page correct! How ridiculous. My daughter lost interest IMMEDIATELY and it has sat on the shelf for three weeks. What a waste of money.

I bought this for my 3 grandchildren and they loved it. They would play it together and see who can to the next level first. I would recommend this to anyone with young children.

I swear the creaters of this game just wanted to get this game out as quickly as possible. The games don't change, the games may start out a little bit easier but then like another poster said they get nearly impossible. I'm VERY disappointed! Will definitly see if I can get my money back. The other thing I don't like is that the game has very few games it doesn't even have the games shown on the front. The only thing you can do is the brain trainer activities and then the rest tell you to come back tomorrow for more games. Sorry I'm not playing this again. There is no way my 5 year old is going to be able to play this.
