Book Description

P and upSpinwheels
Poor juniors. It's the night before the first day of school, and the young pig is tossing and turning in bed. What will the new school year bring? What if the bus pulls up...and it's really a toaster? Or a turkey? Or a meat-loaf? What if all his clothes disappear and he's wearing...a hula skirt? A fig leaf? Or even (horrors!) a diaper? Thank goodness, everything goes smoothly as Junior has a great first day. Youngsters will love spinning the wheels and reading the funny, ever-changing story. Full of rib-tickling kid humor, "

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

PreS-K. Here's a very short interactive book meant for little fingers that's really hard to resist. It features double-thick card stock; a riot of crayon-bright colors, crisp patterns and shapes; and a cast of jolly, pink, pop-eyed pigs. The short, rhyming couplets sometimes stretch the rhyme, but they stand up surprisingly well to the strong art, as they set up the situation: Junior is worried about going to school. "What if instead of my regular clothes, / I'm wearing _______ not the pants that I chose?" By spinning a paper wheel, kids can fill in the blank with a silly suggestion and a picture of their choice. "What if the apple I bring the first day / Is really [an eyeball, an onion, an octopus, etc]! / Then what would I say?" It's tough to identify some of the objects (the pine cone looks like a chocolate waffle), but the real fun is in the guessing, the clever details in the art, and, of course, the giggling. More About the Author

Samantha Berger is not an otter, a Princess, nor a little monster (well, sometimes) but she IS a writer and artist who loves to make up stories about all three!

From the time she was very little, Samantha has always loved children's books, cartoons, comics, costumes, and Kermit the Frog.

Samantha grew up to become the Vice President of Animated Shorts at Nickelodeon, and to write over seventy books for young readers, most recently, "Martha Doesn't Say Sorry!" and "Martha Doesn't Share!"

Before Nickelodeon, Samantha was an Editor at Scholastic, before that a Preschool Teacher, before that, worked at Rhino Records, and before THAT skipped merrily 'round the streets of Brooklyn and Philly.

Samantha recently learned how to drive and moved to sunny California after 15 years on Manhattan Isle. She shares her home with two terrific rescue dogs, 'Rora Mae and Polly Pocket, also know as The Senior and The Puppy.

Samantha loves to travel all over the world, and do as much good as she can along the way. She also loves to laugh loud and hard, as often as possible. Can you hear her? She's probably laughing right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different story every time - easy to read over and over .., October 18, 2003

This review is from: Junior Goes to School: A Spinwheels Book (Hardcover)
Poor Junior ... this is the third Junior/Spinwheels book that we have and Junior always seems to be having a rough day. My 2 year old and I love flipping through the pages, reading and changing the story all the time. She thinks it's funny when we can spin the wheel and change the page over and over. She's thinks it's funny to see objects she knows in unexpected places. The illustrations are simply brilliant -- detailed, sharp, and colorful. Hundreds of combinations make this book easy to read over and over and over and over ...

This review is from: Junior Goes to School: A Spinwheels Book (Hardcover)
This series of books is a huge hit at our house. Both my 3 & 5-year-olds love that they can create silly versions each time we read it. They fight over who gets to turn which wheel that I have to sit between them and let each turn the page on the side closest to them. I highly recommended this book!
