5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I am very disappointed in this book. No pictures and no down to earth recipes. I have fixed nothing from it as I can't find a recipe worth trying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, April 30, 2001

I'm a pretty serious cook, and have been for at least 30 years. At this point I generally buy only highly specialized or pretty esoteric cookbooks, just to learn some new area better. So it was with some hesitation that I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend last year. Let me tell you, unequivocally, that it's a real winner. It's quite clear that the women involved really tested the recipes to death, because I haven't had a clunker yet, and I must have tried at least 30 recipes since I bought it. I recommend it to everyone, regardless of his or her experience level, because none of the recipes are particularly difficult, and you are spared the worry of something turning out to taste awful, which is what usually happens when you're first learning to pick recipes. Buy it without a second thought. If you love really good food, you'll love it.

I have never found a cookbook that has SO MANY excellent recipes. I have tried recipes from almost every category and everyone has been great. These truly are some of the most treasured recipes, just like the book advertises. You're missing "a good find" if you pass over this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars My wife loves it and so do I!, December 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Junior League Centennial Cookbook (Spiral-bound)
I am newly married and my wife has never cooked much. She got the cookbook as a shower gift and it now has become her "bible" in the kitchen. Directions are easy to follow and she now is trying new and different recipes each week, and I reap the benefits. Thanks Junior League!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Cookbook I Own, November 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Junior League Centennial Cookbook (Spiral-bound)
I am an avid amateur cook, and have had this cookbook for several years. Every recipe I have made has been tremendous, and receives rave reviews from guests or the host of parties I bring a dish to, etc. I have also given copies of this book as gifts and will continue to do so. The recipes are not too complicated, and directions are well-written. A must for the person who likes to entertain, or who enjoys eating well at home!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, November 27, 2000

This "Chocolate Chip Cheesecake" alone makes this book more than worthwhile! In fact though, every recipe I have tried from this book has been excellent. This is one cookbook in my collection that I absolutely cannot live without, even among all my "gourmet" and trendy cookbooks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the best from the Junior League, November 9, 2002
This review is from: Junior League Centennial Cookbook (Spiral-bound)
This delightful book is for busy women who like to put together elegant meals without searching for exotic ingredients, without a major commitment of time and effort, and without that aftermath of exhaustion that sometimes follows entertaining or family holidays.

Clearly written with all relevant details included, "The Centennial Cookbook" will suit cooks of all levels, amateur to experienced. I am always looking for uncomplicated good recipes which let me take off that apron to spend more time with family and friends. Highly recommended.

I use this cookbook A LOT! It is the one I turn to if I don't have time to try a recipe before I serve it to company. I have had requests for the recipes for EVERYTHING I have served to company out of this book. I am buying several copies today as Christmas and housewarming gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection!, December 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Junior League Centennial Cookbook (Spiral-bound)
I received this book from my grandmother as a gift - never thought I would like it so much! It has become one of my staple cookbooks; the recipes are accurate, easy to follow (and modify, if necessary), and delicious. There are fun things to try (Brie crackers and Nebraska City Cake), good basics (a great chili recipe and REALLY easy pretzels), and lots of recipes in every possible category. I'm always finding more recipes to try and I've never been disappointed. If you're looking to go beyond Betty Crocker and BH&G, try this one.
