I spent the last two weeks leveraging this book for configuration changes to the SRX 5800 we use at our company. This book shines in that it gives you a good overview of each section with configuration examples and then breaks things down into case studies. For instance, Chapter 5 on Network Address Translation, the book covers how NAT is handled by the SRX, gives you the basic configuration example and how to monitor and debug. Instead of stopping there like most books of this nature, the book then starts providing case studies of different ways to use NAT (ISP Redunancy via PAT, Double NAT, etc).

The new SRX systems have so many features and options that without a book of this nature you could never take advantage of everything. The book contains a wonderful chapter on IPSec VPNs that is worth reading even if you don't own an SRX.

Bottom line: If you use an SRX, buy the book.

It's a great book. Very up to date. I think it's very complete.
But I don't believe it's for a beginner. If you're just stepping up from your first firewall/router, say a consumer grade Linksys or the like, this book will probably kick your butt. With the SRX and Junos your in the big leagues now, don't expect this book to pamper you.

This Book is Granular.
The case studies are descriptive and leverage real world applicable scenarios.
One note however is that i believe it is tailored for Network engineers that have some Security background and knowledge of Junos.
This is a book i utilize alot. If you work on SRX's BUY IT !!!

Some chapters were better than others. Needs updating to better reflect the JNCIA and JNCIS security track. Needs more diagrams with better explanations related to JUNOS JNCIA/JNCIS security course content.

Although today the SRX platforms have much richer features, this book (published in end 2010) provides a LOTs of solid basic and advanced information as well.
It also covers in quite some details information about SRX hardware and how the hardware components works, which is pretty stimulating to read as the great hardware information comes handy when deciding which hardware to buy and also how the troubleshooting differs between SRX platforms.
The book contains a lot of CLI configuration examples, it does not include J-web examples, which is a good decision.
My favorite part is the IPS part, it contains a lot of information that is hard to find elsewhere, such as where IPS specific files a located.
If you are interested to learn SRX platform, either for network design, configuration, day to day maintenance or preparing for Juniper Junos Security Certification, I highly recommend this book.
The authors are very respected Juniper employees (+ one non juniper person I think), so you get good information directly to from the trusted source.
Just for the good information on the SRX hardware details (which can be very tricky to find elsewhere) and the IPS information alone it is worth the money.
disclaimer: I work for juniper.
