I just received my Jupiter Exdrive today and I must say that I feel like I got my money's worth. Addonics' problem is that they're competing in a market where the most popular enclosures are in the $10-$20 price range. The price is nearly the only negative on this enclosure.

Unlike cheaper enclosures, the Jupiter Exdrive includes everything you need in the kit. There's a USB power cable, an AC adapter power cable, the USIB->USB cable, which can also provide power, the enclosure itself, screws (including an extra), manual, driver CD for older Windows versions and, best of all, a screw driver!

Installation of the drive into the enclosure is quick and painless and the fit and finish of the enclosure is top notch. My only complaint in this area is that screwing the PCB to the drive through the rubber shock absorbing material let to some slight twisting of the rubber.

While installing the drive, I got my first taste of just how seriously this enclosure takes itself. No thing aluminum shell here. This is nearly 1/8" thick aluminum, to give your drive the protection it needs.

Combined with the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 2.5 Inch, 8 MB Cache, 5400 RPM SATA II WD5000BEVT, I've had no trouble powering the drive over a single USB port, but this brings me to the second slight complaint. The Internal|External power switch on the drive can easily be bumped to External, which could potentially cause a sudden disconnection.

The final potentially nice feature of the Jupiter Exdrive that other enclosures can't touch is the potentiality of buying a new USIB cable, keeping the same enclosure and connecting to a new or different protocol.

In summary, the Addonics Jupiter Exdrive is a professional quality enclosure, and it comes at a professional price. It's not perfect, but I sure trust my data with it more than I could with most of the other enclosures on the market. The only other ones that I seriously considered were the iOmega eGo series and the LaCie rugged hard disk.
