Back in the late 1970's disaster movies were all the rage - the Jupiter Menace was no exception. Synergy does a great job with the musical score. Close your eyes and listen to "The Alignment". You can feel the cinematic quality to the sound, it's symphonic in nature - and true "rock orchestra". Larry Fast does an awesome job with this one.

The Jupiter Menace is not a disaster movie. It is a well researched documentary hosted by George Kennedy. It includes on site filming at Chaco Canyon, once home of the Anasazi. Also we see Rev. Donn Moomaw, Ronald Reagan`s pastor preaching on Biblical prophecy at his Van Nuys church. Included are Native American prophecies on the end of the age, and state of the art (for 1981) computer simulations of severe earthquakes. This is an above average study of eschatology. This would have been a contender for a Oscar if it had been released to theatres. If it were legal I would give away copies of the video that I bought on order in 1984.

The soundtrack for "The Jupiter Menace" is actually better than the film itself, unless you enjoy unintentional MST3k-type comedy value.

A dated product of the early 1980's, this sythesized electronica ranges from bland to grating. The music is competent enough, and was certainly good enough for the film it came from, but that isn't saying much. "Tubular Belles" or Vangelis this most definitely is NOT.

There is only one truly memorable cut here, and that would be "Cities on the Brink", a driving and competent study of tension about to burst.

I do recommend that you watch the film, which plays like a supermarket tabloid by way of a cheap carnival barker. Lots of laughs (especially from hindsight), and none of them are intentional.
