5.0 out of 5 stars Third Time's A Charm !
I bought the model 565 instead because it is actually metal and weighs about twice as much as the plastic one. I wanted something solid. This one is. It sits vibration free on the counter while grinding. I tried two other grinders before this one. You will find negative reviews on them somewhere here.
I have been using this one for a couple of weeks now and LOVE...

1.0 out of 5 stars Good Grinder - Burrs Not Replaceable
All of Capresso's grinders are good grinders and do a great job, until the burrs dull, then you're out of luck.

Capresso refuses to sell anything but the upper burr ring. They will not sell the lower burr. When your burrs dull, you have no option but to throw the grinder away. Capresso may have a refurbed unit to sell you but their price is about what they go...

I have been using this one for a couple of weeks now and LOVE it. It does a great job grinding the beans, even flavored, very oily dark roast, the bane of most grinders.. I found the right grind setting for my beans, gold filter and Krups drip pot after only a couple of tries. Makes wonderful coffee. I don't make Expresso, so I can't speak to that. There are five finer settings than the one I use and ten that are courser. I think most people could find one that would work for them. I don't clean it after every use as recommended. Maybe once a week or so. I've had no problems so far.
It's much quieter than any other grinder I've used and I have had very little static problem. Nothing a light tap on the side doesn't handle.
It's not perfect, but as close as I can afford. Bottom line: spend a little more and get the 565. It's worth it.

Just be warned that a normally replaceable part is not replaceable part on any of Capresso's burr grinders. The saddest part is that there is no reason to not sell the lower burr, except to force you to buy a new grinder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid grinder, January 28, 2010

First of all, there are 4 different models. For some reason, that basic information was difficult to find. I even called the company and the person on the phone had to go ask someone.

All 4 models are the same with the exception of the finish:

Black plastic.
Silver painted plastic.
Brushed Stainless steel finish (metal base).
Polished stainless steel finish (metal base).

It turns out they no longer make the polished stainless steel finish. I purchased the brushed stainless steel model 565.05 thinking it was the polished model. The picture was wrong. And even on one side of the box it shows the polished model.

So to me the only drawback to this grinder is the difficulty in picking and receiving the model I wanted.

Otherwise in my limited use so far, it is perfect. I suggest a metal base model so that it does not vibrate around. The brushed stainless steel matches my Breville machine perfectly too.

I studied a lot of grinders and this was the best model and price. I paid $119 with free shipping. Very easy to use; Pour some coffee beans in and spin the knob.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good grinder but remember to CLEAN IT regularly, December 10, 2009

The first one did a good job for years then seized up one day. I think the motor over-heated. I bought the second one. I actually read the book that came with it this time, which said it should be disassembled and cleaned from time to time. It was easy. Remove the hopper, take the top of the burr off, brush everything, voila! This seemed to keep everything in good working order for a while. Then, despite regular cleaning, it started to make the low noise when grinding that the first one made before it seized up. And less and less ground coffee was coming out into the bin. This time, I really cleaned it well, but it wanted to seize up within days.

What is the problem?
(a) my preference for super, extra fine, Turkish grind lodges more grinds in the crevices than coarser grinds,
(b) espresso and french roast beans are comparatively oily so are more sticky, and
(c) I grind coffee 2-4 times every day which is more work than the manufacturer intend for home grinders.

How to save this grinder?
1. Grind a few tablespoons of uncooked white rice at medium granularity, then grind a second batch at a very fine setting.
2. Brush out the residue.
3. Wipe the interior with damp paper towels.
4. Make sure to to clean out the chute with cotton swabs and pipe cleaners or it will back up and jam the burrs.
5. When dry, reassemble the grinder and run some cheap beans through it to get rid of as much rice starch as possible.

I got a can of compressed air which I hope will lessen the ordeal next time but because of the oil, air might not be forceful enough so you still have to brush.

Let's see how long this grinder lasts with this cleaning regiment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Quickly breaks down, July 15, 2011

Have had two of these that I got from Costco. They are a beast to assemble/disassemble for cleaning and to get a proper alignment. Even after carefully maintaining both of the ones I had, each of them quit working within a month from poor design and the inability to get it aligned after putting it back together. With the first one thought it was just poor workmanship for one grinder, but had the same problems with the second one. Fortunately Costco provides refunds with hardly any question - including shipping charges.

5.0 out of 5 stars Four cups per day, every day, for seven years. Still going strong, January 13, 2011
This review is from: Jura-Capresso 560 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Brushed Silver Finish (Kitchen)
I remember thinking why anyone would want to spend $90 on a coffee grinder. I mean they break down every few years and have to be replaced anyway. However, I heard good things about burr grinders in general and this one particularly so I took the risk.

It has worked flawlessly and consistently. By "four cups per day" I mean I set the grind knob to "4" every morning and run 18 oz of water through the ground coffee that's produced, using my Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker, Black and Stainless Steel to produce enough coffee to fill my Contigo AUTOSEAL Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumbler, 16 Ounces, Black with a bit left over so the pot doesn't sit dry.

The point is, starting with the amount and quality of the grind, everything is delightfully consistent for any brand of coffee.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap Hopper & Defective Switch, May 3, 2010
This review is from: Jura-Capresso 560 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Brushed Silver Finish (Kitchen)
Bought this burr grinder 4 months ago--does a great job grinding coffee--easy to set amount by the timer. But the hopper is cheap and don't ever take it out to clean--very difficult to put back in. Now the worst part: It won't turn on anymore--the timer is also the on/off, and the cheap plastic hopper must engage a plastic trigger to turn it on. Seems that part no longer trips the power on, so we now have a dead grinder. We have a small Cuisinart burr grinder that we use upstairs, does a great job--3 years old and no trouble--it was $45--1/2 half the price of the Capresso. The Capresso switch is a horrible design that will fail way before the rest of the parts, but what do you do with a dead grinder?

2.0 out of 5 stars Messiest Grinder Ever, September 18, 2010
This review is from: Jura-Capresso 560 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Brushed Silver Finish (Kitchen)
While the grinder is smooth, fairly quiet and makes a good grind, the static buildup plus the fact that a lot of the grinds miss the reservoir makes this the messiest grinder I've ever owned. If you own a good broom or vacuum, this is the grinder for you. My old grinder was noisy, but it sure made it easy to grab a nice fresh cup of coffee. Now I find myself grinding for a couple of weeks at a time, which defeats the purpose of having a grinder, just to keep from having to cleanup coffee grinds so often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for those who don't make espresso., January 21, 2011
This review is from: Jura-Capresso 560 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Brushed Silver Finish (Kitchen)
For someone who brews with a variety of methods at home, with the exception of espresso, this is all one could ask for. The 16 different settings produce effective grinds for Turkish coffee, a French press and everything in between. At home I regularly switch between brewing with a French Press, Siphon pot, Chemex, Hario V60, stovetop espresso maker and Ibrik (for Turkish coffee). Whatever strikes the mood for the day right! I've been able to effectively dial in super tasty coffee with this grinder across all these methods with ease. There are more than enough settings to find that perfect grind for pretty much any brewing method you can think of with the exception of espresso (this is NOT a good grinder for espresso by the way). I've found the consistency of the grind across all 16 settings to be better than other more expensive grinders and nearly on par with the $5,000 MahlKonig grinder in the coffee shop where I work. Not bad for less than $100! Having a consistent grind is essential in producing great coffee as it facilitates an even extraction. Additionally a consistent grind makes repeatability of a good brew MUCH easier. Moreover, very few fines are produced by this grinder which is excellent for French Press brewing. Fines, microscopic pieces of the coffee bean produced during grinding, are inevitable but are minimized with a better quality grinder. The amount of sludge at the bottom of a cup of unfiltered coffee, such as a french press, is a direct result of the level of fines. Fewer fines = less sludge. That's a good thing in my book. For those of you who plan on brewing coffee with anything besides an espresso machine I can't recommend this grinder enough. The reason why I don't recommend this for espresso brewing is that the jumps between settings fine enough for espresso are far too large to properly dial in a delicious shot. While the capresso can certainly do a grind fine enough for espresso you are limited to two, maybe three settings. This is nowhere near sufficient to hone in on a perfect espresso shot. However, there are ample settings to hone in on a perfect non-espresso brewing method.

The only problem I have with the Capresso is it's tendency to retain grinds. Without any "assistance" the grinder retains around 2 grams of coffee, which is enough to mess up a brew. This problem is easily resolved by giving the grinder a few taps on the back at the end of the grinding cycle though. It ends up not being a major problem, but does require you to give the grinder some help.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great grinder - I don't know what the problem is for these first 2 folks., April 6, 2009
This review is from: Jura-Capresso 560 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Brushed Silver Finish (Kitchen)
Fast and efficient. Excellent and easily adjustable grinding choices. The finer the grind the longer it takes - as you'd want.
If you follow the directions and do not grind more than one hopper full of beans at a time - you won't get any clogged grounds.
Burr grinder is the better choice at this price.
I have had my grinder for over 1 year and use it daily for espresso and regular coffee each day!
Highly recommend this item and make! This really is a good grinder, not a cheap piece of junk!! Parts are stainless, plastic, and metal - where you'd expect them to be stainless, plastic, and metal.
