Finally-A wonderful coffeemaker,

I purchased a capresso coffemaker in the 1990's and loved it. However it was used so much that it wore out. It lasted about 10 years. However I could never find one to replace it that I liked. Well now Capresso has finally come up with a model that is better than the one I used to own. It makes a wonderful HOT cup of coffee and it tastes so great! It's very easy to use, especially filling the tank and I just love it. Thank you Capresso.

Looks nice on the kitchen counter. Fairly easy to fill. Removable filter holder. Comes with a gold filter or you can use #4 paper cone filters. Carafe has comfortable handle and pours easily. Construction quality seems good. Replacement carafe and other parts available from Capresso. Replaceable water filters available. Makes great HOT coffee. Worth the money....
Follow up December 2010: Still enjoying the coffee maker. I stll have problems with the replaceable water filters -- they make the coffee maker spit and leak -- the filters seem to stop up after a week or two. I went back to pouring in filtered water from a Brita carafe. Finally: used coffee grounds make great garden fertilizer!

I bought this one after a long search to replace my Braun FlavorSelect that made an awesome cup of coffee and had no weird problems, but lasted for 8 years and then died. I first bought a Bunn and a Cuisinart and literally gave them away to Salvation Army because they didn't do the one and only thing a coffeemaker should do - that's to make a good cup of coffee.
Yes, the reviewers are right, this unit makes a great cup of HOT coffee, but now hear the rest... I exchanged one to find that it's a design flaw and not a defect of the first unit. Toward the end of the brewing cycle water caught between the 2 filter holders streams down the right side of the pot and onto the burner sizzling. That's very bad for the burner and will distroy it in no time. The second problem is that it literally brings the coffee to a simmering boil immediately after it's done brewing. It's easiest to see when the coffeemaker is brand new and you brew water 1st time to clean the unit from the factory stuff. I hoped it was the defect of the 1st unit being cranked up too high but it's not. So no wander the coffee is "HOT"! Everyone knows that coffee should never be boiled and here we have the coffeemaker doing it. There is no way to turn down the temperature either, so be ware, even for those of us who insist on hot coffee - we'll probably get our mouth burned. The third flaw is that the unit slurps loudly, my 1st unit didn't know when to stop and the new one stops when the water is gone. There is no beep to let you know when the coffee is ready, but maybe one doesn't really need it; once the loud slurping stops you know it's ready. They just don't make them like they used to (:( But after so much money wasted on other higher end coffee makers that could not make a good cup of coffee, i'm going to keep this one and keep putting a wadded up paper towel between the filter unit and the pot to sop up the stream of steam and i'll have to turn the pot off immediately before the coffee gets totally boiled. A pain really but what choice have i got; they stopped making the FlavorSelect years ago...

I purchased this after returning the Cusinart Thermal Carafe Maker(due to the fact it made lukewarm coffee). This Capresso machine was more expensive, however, not much better. The coffee is a few degrees hotter when poured into a cup, but not hot enough to stay hot after cream is added.. The machine itself is not well made, thin plastic and barely room for the carafe to sit on the plate. It is slightly awkard to pour the water into it, and see the number of cups(for smaller amounts of coffee. Quality of brew is no better than the Cuisinart. Very disappointing.

After several years' fine service from an earlier version of this coffeemaker, I gave the MG600 a whirl. And so far I am not disappointed - same fine coffee, same expensive filters. ;-)
The only issue I encountered with the "upgrade" was that my old carafe did not fit. But that said, the new one does not leak nearly as easily as the original. July 2010 Update... I take back my earlier implied quality comment. The electronics shorted out after a few months usage.

This machine makes bitter-tasting coffee; I know because I can use the same beans in another machine and get better results.
The design of the water reservior creates leaking down the back of the machine everytime you open the lid. The heating plate gets way too hot. For the price, it's not that great, so we are returning it.

I have the Capresso 471.01 CoffeeTEC Digital 10-cup Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Vacuum. It was purchased for us as a gift in 2005. I have used it every day for the last 5 years and love it! So, when my Mom needed a new coffee maker, I bought her a Capresso since I'd had such good luck with it. She tells me every time I go to her house how much she loves her new coffee maker. I would definitely recommend Capresso products -- they make great coffee and hold up well.

Flimsy Decanter and Flavorless Brew,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jura-Capresso Specialty Coffee Makers MG 600, Stainless Steel/Black Accents (Kitchen)
Positive: The water temperature in the glass carafe is HOT - much more so than any other home brewer I've owned or have experienced.
Small Negative: The first thing I noticed when I took this out of the box were several minor abrasions. They're aesthetic in nature and therefore don't adversely impact the unit's performance, although they most certainly don't belong on any newly purchased item. This is attributable to inadequate packaging by the manufacturer. BIG Negative: THE GLASS DECANTER FEELS FLIMSY! The impressive looking (in the photos) handle is not a solid piece, but is instead comprised of two, thin wall plastic sections that are snapped together. The handle makes creaking noises when it's picked up and the feel of it reminds me of the old "snap together" model cars I built in the 1970s. I'm reasonably certain that I could crush the handle with one hand if I squeezed hard enough. It's difficult to believe that the decanter will last over extended periods of time. In the meantime, I get to experience the dissatisfying feeling of it in my hand every time I pour a cup of coffee. The handle SHOULD be made from a solid plastic casting - preferably ABS. That would cost money (perhaps an extra 65 cents or so), so they took the cheap way out here. A suitable handle would shout "QUALITY," while the present handle sceams "JUNK." I'd gladly pay an extra $10 for this unit if it were equipped with a decent handle. BIGGEST NEGATIVE: This brewer has no spray head in the interest of cost-savings, meaning that a single stream of water pours down the center of the filter, meaning that only SOME of the coffee is actually being brewed. Combined with the fast brew cycle, the hot water simple doesn't remain in contact with the coffee grinds long enough to extract flavor. The result is hot, fast, but tasteless coffee. Summarily, this COULD HAVE BEEN a nice coffee brewer if they spent another $5 or so per unit by incorporating a spray head and a decent decanter handle. Since that's not the case, this is junk and should be avoided.

I like my new Capresso 10 cup coffee maker. It makes the hottest cup of coffee out of the home brands. My last one was a Krups and it just never got the coffee hot. I just wish the clock was bigger and that the lid comes off. Other than that I would recommend it.
