Do they work? Yes.
The tablets are certainly a necessity if you have hard water, and they do seem to do the job. The cleaning tablets do not produce the same results, so you cannot substitute.
Descaling the Jura Capresso Automatic coffee-maker is necessary if you have hard water, which we do. Not only does our water leave white lines in the water tank (which do disappear after the descaling process) but the coffee is noticeably cooler over time. I get the best HOT cup of coffee right after a descaling was done. I do not use the filter insert, because let's face it, the darn tank is small enough as is. I don't want to have to fill it twice each morning. Also with the filter in place, the machine does not keep track of scale build-up.
Would another product work?
I suspect so, but I am too chicken to try it out. The Jura is a tad expensive to experiment with.
I suppose I could use bottled water or deionized water to make coffee with, and avoid having to use the descaling tablets, or at least cut down on the frequency of having to go through the descaling procedure, but deep down I know that's just too much to ask for BEFORE I had a cup of coffee.
If you need the descalers and find a good deal, buy in bulk, they last.
We LOVE our Jura! And what can you say about these, other than they do their job and they keep our machine making good coffee.
You do need to use three tablets per cleaning, so this nine-pack ends up only being useful for about three cleaning cycles. We make about 5-10 shots of espresso a day with our Jura, and a package of these lasts about eight months, so the price isn't too bad.

this is as good as you can get. I used it to descale my Gran Dama super-automatic coffee machine, and it worked well. Read morePublished 2 days ago by Vinh Linh Nguyen
It works. But it is overly expensive compared to other machines' solutions. This pack will decalcify 3 times. 3 tablets are used each time. Read morePublished 19 days ago by Justin Won
I am very, very annoyed that these tablets have rendered my coffee undrinkable. Every cup of coffee tastes like chemicals, like poison. Read morePublished 23 days ago by lbj is dead
I use these whenever my Jura tells me it is time. My only gripe is how expensive they are. Beyond that they what they are supposed to as far as I can tell. Read morePublished 28 days ago by Werty
