One of the Best Dinosaur books up to date!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Jurassic Park Institute (TM) Dinosaur Field Guide (Paperback)
This is an awesome book for dino enthusiast and/or kids who want to be paleontologists. It has information on 87 diffirent dinosaurs and also information on some non-dinosaurs. The illustrations, done by Robert Walters, are amazingly beautiful and colorful! Another great thing about this book is that it has new information about dinosaurs; like birds are now classified as a type of dinosaur and new discoveries like Nqwebasaurus. It's a great book for new dino fans aswell.

For young and old dino lovers!,

I have a 5 and 7 year old. We all think this book is great! It's colorful and informative and Up-To-Date! One feature I enjoy pointing out to my kids is the little images which compare the dinosaurs size to a human child's size. That way we get an even better idea how big the creatures were.

This review is from: Jurassic Park Institute (TM) Dinosaur Field Guide (Paperback)
This is a great book, its got the most info on dino discoveries after about '95, plus interesting facts on previously known about dinos. Its also a very interesting and fun book to read, and is very educational. It has a cool fold out poster too, wich makes it even more fun. I strongly reccemend this book to any one of any age who like dinosaurs.

Promising high interest and educational quality alike is this dinosaur 'field guide' for all ages, which packs in museum-quality dinosaur illustrations, expertise by two paleontologist authors, and details on dinosaur digs and places to see fossils in the field. Web sites, museums, and bibliographies are also included in this highly visual, appealing guide.

Awesome dino book for kids or adults,
This review is from: Jurassic Park Institute (TM) Dinosaur Field Guide (Paperback)
I've had a copy of this book ever since I was a kid. It's full of nice illustrations and detailed profiles of dinosaurs and other reptiles like pteorsaurs, marine reptiles and archosaurs. The book is written for children, so the information is a little simplistic and some of the trivia maybe a little kiddish, but years later I find myself in college and I still find myself looking back in it once in a while reading up on dinosaurs. Of course there are more detailed and official sources an adult could read like National Geographic, but this is good too.
Aside from just talking about dinosaur species, it also has a few pages dedicated to explaining how fossils are excavated, the geologic history of the world, how dinosaurs are named, the importance of plant life and dinosaurs in movies. It really is a good educational tool. The reason why I give this book four stars is because it's not the most durable. Eventually pages start to fall out. I've gone through two or three copies of this book (it's so darn good that I don't let the bad binding bother me). Also, one or two recent scientific discoveries have rendered some of the knowledge in this book obsolete, namely the dinosaur Torosaurus is now considered to be the adult form of Triceratops, while this book documents them as separate. And just a pointer, the organization Jurassic Park Institute has gone (pardon the pun) extinct years ago, so I wouldn't try looking it up when you see the ad in the back of the book, though it was a great dinosaur site for kids when it was active. Long story short, especially a good beginner's guide of prehistoric life for kids, while being a decent reference for adults as well. Highly recommended.

My 5 & 6 year olds who have been obsessed with dinosaurs for the last 3 years, love this book. They sit and read for HOURS and have learned all the specs on their favorite dinosaurs. As a parent, I think this book has a lot of great information and is simple enough for my 5 year old to read. Hope this helps!

A hundred prehistoric dinosaurs and non-dinosaurs are profiled in this 100-page illustrated manual. Each reptilian is given one page of info which includes a couple of paragraphs or so along with a time chart and measurement scale. Also included for each entry is a simplified breakdown of certain stats, these include: Fun Facts, Location, Food, Size, Weight, Friends, Enemies, and Trivia.
Other sections of the book include, Maps of Earth in the Mesozoic Era, Dinosaur Discoveries Around the World, Where to See Dinosaurs in Museums, Recommended Books about Dinosaurs, Books for Teachers and Parents, Dinosaur-Related Web Sites, and a Glossary. There are also a few black & white photos of dinosaur researchers as well as some short pages on plant life and fossil discovery. This book was written by Dr. Michael Brett-Surman of the Smithsonian Institute and Dr. Thomas R Holtz, a top T. Rex expert. Bought this book for my little brother a few years back when he was all into the "dino" stuff. He seemed to have enjoyed the book, at least for a short while. The main appeal of this book is the Jurrasic Park license; otherwise more informative Dinosaur books can be found elsewhere.

If you have a child like mine who has almost every dinosaur related book imaginable and are having a hard time getting them fresh information, this is the book for you. This book was a gift and I can't wait to see the giver, because my child will not put it down. Although it is just a simple small/mid sized paperback, and appears to be something from a school book order, it is packed with good stuff. It has so many new dinosaurs complete with facts, trivia, and the always helpful pronunciation guide. It is divided between dinosaurs and prehistoric reptiles (if you don't know what I'm talking about, you aren't quite ready for this book). Originally it included a tear-out mini "poster", but that is long gone, but might be in your copy if you order a mint condition book. In summary: If you've gotten to this point of the review... BUY THIS BOOK!
