Product Description

Product Description

Players determine before the game starts whether they will be a human attempting to escape the island--or the dinosaur looking for its next snack. If you choose to be human, the goal is to get through the five dino-packed territories and to the beach before being caught by a vicious beast. First human off the island wins. If you choose to be a dinosaur, the object is to make sure that none of the humans reach the beach. If all humans are defeated, dinosaurs roam victorious. Various cards and a roll of the dice determine the action sequences. Five different breeds of prehistoric beasts inhabit the island, including the pteranodon, Spinosaurus, and T-Rex.

5.0 out of 5 stars JP Flashbacks...very cool!!, June 2, 2001

The First time I plyed this game was at a Convention for upcoming products from movies (The Mummy Returns, Tomb Raider, Planet of the Apes, ect.). The JPIII Section was the first I tried out. This game reminded me of the old "Jurassic Park" board game. The game's object is simple...try to get off the island without becoming lunch. You can play several different Charecters from the film (sorry, but I wasn't counting how may player there can be). You roll the dice and take as many steps as possible. Watch out, though. Raptors, A T-rex and most of all, The Spinosuarus, will be coming after you. The art design of the cover box looks exactly like the original JP board game design (I just love how in every JP sign, it's always a red-black-and-orange colored sky, kinda like it's always Dusk in JP!!!) This game is great for kids to play, espically if they like JP, which I highly doubt because JP is an old movie an kids won't really get the whole DNA thing or cloning thing untill they're probably 12 (heck, it took me several years to relize the whole scientific ting in JP...I was 5 when I saw it!!!). Great game, Great fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun basic strategy game for 2nd grader., December 30, 2001

Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
Jurassic Park III comes with 7 human characters from the movie, 6 Pteranodons, 3 velociraptors, 2 spinosaurs, and a T-Rex. There is one dinosaur player, and one or more human players (up to 3 human players). The human players attempt to move through 4 dinosaur-infested zones to get to a beach to be rescued. The dinosaur player attempts to eat all the humans.

After playing a few times, it appears that the human players have the edge. It is difficult for the dinosaurs to win, due to the fact that the dinos move a bit slower, and don't always "hit" a human in a "battle."

However, young kids will find this a simple and easy introduction to adventure and strategy games. My second grader loves it, and wants to play it every day. He likes to follow each human player's progress.

Chance is important in that human players can draw cards when they land on special squares that allow them to transport fellow humans, go back to the starting point, or even remove a dinosaur via battle. In addition, both movement and battle resolution are via customized dice. Overall setup takes about a minute, and games usually last 20 to 30 minutes.

In terms of durability, the dinosaur pieces are actually quite sturdy and the board is made of decent card stock. However, the human pieces are of cardboard stock on plastic stands that can become loose over time. The dice are assemble-your-self types with stickers on 6 sides. These will likely come loose with time also.

Overall, a decent investment of 20 bucks and a few afternoons with your kid.

5.0 out of 5 stars JP3, First Toy Strike, December 13, 2001

Real fun. If human, go through five different stages to the final draw card space and draw the win card. If dino, destroy all humans. The five parts are Jaw to Jaw,Raptor Rumble,Pteranadon Terror,Spino's Revenge, and Race to the Rescue.
The dinos are 6 pteradons,3velociraptors,2 spinosauras,and 1 Tyrannosauras.The characters are Alan,Billy,Amanda,Paul,Eric,Udesky, and Nash. Like I said,Real fun.
