Product Description

Developed by Telltale Games, the creators of the hit Back to the Future: The Game, Jurassic Park: The Game is a cinematic adventure 65 million years in the making that delivers an authentic, exciting and sometimes scary Jurassic Park experience. Rooted in an original story that expands on the events of the first Jurassic Park movie, the game plays out through the eyes of key characters and progresses through fast-paced action, exploration and puzzle-solving. In-Gen staff marooned on the island, infiltrators sent to steal the Park’s secrets and mercenaries sent to rescue survivors collide, revealing that dinosaurs are not the only thing to worry about in John Hammond’s failed theme park and reserve. In addition to revisiting scenes and creatures seen in the movie, including the mighty T-Rex, cunning Raptors and the scene of Dennis Nedry’s death, players will explore new areas of the park only hinted at in the movie and encounter new prehistoric creatures, freed by Nedry’s greed. Return to Isla Nublar once more in Jurassic Park: The Game.

This game is by no stretch of the word great. It's clear it was made on a budget as the graphics and animations will point out. However, it's heart is in the right place. If you ever loved Jurassic Park as a kid and want to experience a taste of that magic this is a good buy. I went into this game knowing it was budget and an adventure game to boot and while I find the extensive use of quick time events to be a bit excessive the action scenes and story make up for it. Not to mention you get to explore new parts of the park never before seen in the movies. This game is more like an interactive movie with moments of the point and click adventure games of old. Jurassic Park is not a game for everyone and those unfamiliar with the a fore mentioned adventure games of the 1990's will probably not get into it finding it to archaic in game play terms to be satisfied. People familiar with more modern approaches to this genre such as heavy rain will be in their element as it shares the same genre with out the quality of time and a budget to make it truly great. Here's a quick list for easy dissection of this review.

Pro's:
- Great story and voice acting
- A retro style game for re-living those childhood memories
- Explore new parts of the park like the marine life facility
- Dinosaur animations and sound effects are great
- The investigative sections where you explore the environment are a lot of fun

Con's:
- Dialogue can be stereotypical at times
- Animation (Specifically the human characters) and Graphics in general are below today's standards by far
- A lot of quick time events

Overall I give it prop's for simply being done well with what budget they had and it's clear by their efforts that they loved the source material and did their best to make an adventure worthy of the fan's love. Take it for what it is and what could of never been instead of what it isn't.

Did you ever read those Goosebumps Books that let you make choices? Well this is the same thing only it's a video game. This game makes you feel in control of the situation. Needless to say that when an action scene comes up, your body fills with adrenaline as you prepare to make your moves and choices. If you played The Walking Dead and like it, you will love this game as well. Then again I always liked zombies and dinosaurs.
The only reason people don't like this game is because they were expecting to be able to move around freely on the island and go anywhere. Graphics are fine and should not even be a reason for writing a 1-3 Star Review.

I really like TellTale Games. I love their Sam & Max entries, their Walking Dead seasons and The Wolf Among Us. I even recently played Puzzle Agent by them and really enjoyed it. They're usually a fun throw back to PC adventure games with either challenging puzzles or deep narratives whose outcomes you control, making their gameplay a unique experience. TellTale Games aren't really so much games as they are interactive stories, and something about that works amazingly well.

But not in this entry.

I really wanted to like this one. I love Jurassic Park (The first movie anyway. I read the books but that was years ago and I don't really remember all that much). Some of it feels so much like the movies that you can kind of tell that they picked up visual cues directly from them - the camera pans, some of the shots of the dinos, etc. As a visual reference, it works pretty well. But gameplay, especially when stacked up against another TellTale series, there's not much to be had.

So story first - it's pretty standard. A group of survivors left after the events of the first Jurassic Park movie are still on the island and need to be rescued, while another group has snuck their way onto the island to retrieve the embryos Nedry was supposed to grab but was unable to. The park's vet ends up saving one of these intruders only to be held hostage while another group of mercenary forces is sent via helicopter to air lift them out. How the game tells the story is another issue. In past and future titles, usually you control one character unless something bad has happened to that character. In The Walking Dead, you control Lee (Until the end and the start of the second season when you control Clementine). In The Wolf Among Us, you're Bigby Wolf.

First of all, if you buy this expecting a game, you will be dissapointed. To truly appreciate what Telltale games has done, think of it as an interactive movie. Kind of a Jurassic Park 1 1/2. It was a great experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. This game really does give some answers that I have always wondered about from the first movie, such as the Lysine contingency and what exactly happened to the embryos. The game also allows you to explore some of the things that were to come later in the park, such as rides and a marine exhibit. A few points of the game are extremely awesome, don't want to give away too much, but let's just say that there is a knife fight with a Velociraptor. The story itself was very captivating as a huge fan of the franchise. I was let down in the fact that the only characters from the original movie in the game were Dennis Nedry (already dead), and the main character of the game, Gerry Harding, was the vet in the sick Triceratops scene from the original Jurassic Park. The game is filled with little things like that which will be apparent to the dedicated fans. For anyone else however I can't in good conscience recommend this. The gameplay is rather boring and very buggy. Those were the only things I can really think of negative, definitely not a dealbreaker for fans, but if you don't like Jurassic Park this isn't for you.
