1.0 out of 5 stars Pauley's 5 But The movie's a 1 September 12, 2004
A Kid's Review
Format:DVD
I agree with the previous reviewer that this is a terrible movie but thats where the agreement ends because I disagree with him that Pauley Shore is a shame to the acting community! I really like Pauley Shore and think he has made some darn funny movies and he was very good in them especially Encino Man, Biodome and son in Law. What I didn't like about Jury Duty wasn't Pauley Shore, I thought he was good but it was what he had to work with that wasn't good like a terrible script and humor that just wasn't very humorous so the 1 star is for the movie but Pauley Shore himself would get a 5!

4.0 out of 5 stars A taut courtroom drama March 3, 2012
By E. Wood
Format:DVD
A sprawling cinematic achievement in the rich tradition of `A Time to Kill,' and '12 Angry Men.'

In this psychological thriller, one man must stand alone in critique against a marred American justice system to save the life of the wrongly accused. Mr. Shore may be one of the last truly method actors - in the DVD Extras we learn that in order to prepare for this role Mr. Shore underwent extensive ethnographic training with lawyers, prosecutors and other court officers to truly bring to life the struggles of everyday people when faced with the machinations of the courts. From the first opening sequence in which we are offered a rhetorical discourse on the commodification of bovine lactation and the sexualization human body, to the ending credits - Shore shines in his portrayal of Everyman searching for shelter and his own humanity.

As usual, Ms. Carrere sparkles with wit and nuance, and the supporting cast (Shelly Winters as Tom's mother in an oblique Oedipus reference) serves as a foil to Shore's pastiche of 1990s excess. Rife with allegorical references to ancient Roman philosophy and the Greek roots of democracy, this film is a ribald critique of the American justice system.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Beginning of the Death of Pauly Shore's Career
