4.0 out of 5 stars SUPERIOR READING OF SISTERHOOD SERIES

Fern Michaels knows a winner when she writes one, so she's penning stories in her Sisterhood Series at quite a pace. Latest out of the shoot is a fourth, The Jury, another saga in the pursuit of justice by a group of seven women who some time ago decided that life wasn't fair and they were going to do what they could to tip the scales in their direction...

4.0 out of 5 stars SUPERIOR READING OF SISTERHOOD SERIES, June 14, 2006

Fern Michaels knows a winner when she writes one, so she's penning stories in her Sisterhood Series at quite a pace. Latest out of the shoot is a fourth, The Jury, another saga in the pursuit of justice by a group of seven women who some time ago decided that life wasn't fair and they were going to do what they could to tip the scales in their direction.

First introduced to us in "Weekend Warriors," these are gals who will stop at nothing (well, almost) to protect or avenge one of their own. Now, they extend their caring arms to a new friend - Paula Woodley. She has been the victim of an abusive marriage with the broken bones and zero self-esteem to show for it. The perpetrator of such cruelty? A wealthy, respected Washington high roller, Karl Woodley, the national security advisor himself and a good buddy of the president.

Paula felt she didn't have a prayer is she stood up to him - she hadn't counted on the help of the Sisterhood.

Laural Merlington's reading of Weekend Warriors won me, and that appreciation grew even stronger upon hearing her narratives of Vendetta and Payback. She has a smooth, easy-to-listen-to voice that is now identified with this series. Her take on each of these intrepid women is superior.

Enjoy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Confused by the plot, March 20, 2007

This review is from: The Jury: Sisterhood Series #4 (Sisterhood Novels) (Paperback)
While I have enjoyed other Fern Michaels Revenge of the Sisterhood books, this book was confusing in the beginning, perplexing in the middle and a let down in the end. First, why was there even a plot about extracting revenge for the horse farm owners, then abruptly that plot went away, conveniently resolving the issue on its own? There wasn't any good reason to even have that plot in the book. And how did the fired attorney just go away on her own? And (caution-spoiler to follow), why in the world was the daughter of the judge killed off (unless there's another story line here)? It added nothing to the book! And the ending-why oh why would the wife of the National Security Advisor come out of hiding to be with her husband after the guy was almost beaten to death in retaliation by the Sisterhood? Why would she even want to be near him? I haven't a clue.

It was all right, but the series seems to be going down. I hope Sweet Revenge is better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing, December 11, 2006
This review is from: The Jury: Sisterhood Series #4 (Sisterhood Novels) (Paperback)
I listened to this in the car, and didn't know until I came here to write my review that this is part of a series--which would explain why I didn't know what the heck was going on. Unlike the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, you cannot pick up one of the books from the Sisterhood Series and expect to know who the characters are, and what their history consists of. The Stephanie Plum series is great because you can pick up any one of them, and Evanovich is very good about getting the reader up to date as to who the characters are and what they are about.

I found the end of this book downright disturbing. Yes, I know that beating up one's spouse is wrong, but two wrongs don't make a right. I find it disturbing that Michaels let her characters think that they were well within their rights to do what they did at the end to exact revenge against the man who was beating up his wife. Vigilante justice is NOT COOL. Period.

I also was very disappointed in the side plot involving the people who were abusing the horses at the neighboring farm. She spent more time building that up then she had the plot about the abused woman, and then she just let the plot about the abused horses die out into nothing once she picked up on the abused woman plot.

Weird book. Weirdly written. I suspect her editor had a head cold when working on this one. That's the only way I could explain the disjointed plot of this book.

Talk about a let down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Escapist Read, March 25, 2008
This review is from: The Jury: Sisterhood Series #4 (Sisterhood Novels) (Paperback)
Totally entertaining installment of the Sisterhood series. Is it real? No. Is it believable? No. Could it happen? No. Is it a fun idea to ponder and revel in? You bet! The Sisterhood is a group of women who have been failed by the judicial system as we know it, so they create their own. Myra, Charles, and the gang never fail to entertain. In addition to the entertainment value, this one includes more than one emotional moment with more loss for the Sisterhood. I look forward to the next installment, in fact I've already started it. If there seem to be loose ends at the end of The Jury, they are important to the next book of the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars A DISAPPOINTING NUMBER FOUR, May 29, 2006

This book is number four in The Sisterhood series from Fern Michaels. After much excitement, suspense and surprises in the first three books, Weekend Warriors, Payback & Vendetta, this one, The Jury, is a big disappointment. Although we are led to believe that Nikki will choose Jack as her revenge, she chooses him for something else. Her turn ends up getting put off till certain people can be located and it's frustrating when you think her revenge will be one thing and ends up being another, which isn't really her "turn" at all. I wasn't on the edge of my seat like I was with the other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Weekend Warriors (Revenge of the Sisterhood), August 6, 2006
This review is from: The Jury: Sisterhood Series #4 (Sisterhood Novels) (Paperback)
Fern Michaels, Revenge of the Sisterhood Series, is among her best written books. So far I have read Weekend Warriors, Payback, Vendetta, and The Jury. I always like books with powerful women in them who can stand up to the men and unjust situations in their lives. A group of Ladies are out to seek revenge on the men in their lives who have caused great unlawful harm to them. Since the justice system has let these men go free these women are out to get even in very unusual ways. All of the books receive a Five Star rating plus from me and I cannot wait for the rest of the series to come out. And I hope there are more in the making too.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Jury, July 15, 2006

I picked up the first two books in the Sisterhood Series by mistake but once I read the first one, I could hardly wait to read the second. I was thrilled when the third, fourth and fifth all came out close together. If you are interested in reading any of these books, do read them in order so you know the background and happenings of all the key characters instead of being befuddled starting in the middle of the series.

Fern Michaels once again amazed me with the way she maneuvered the plan around to make it work. Charles is amazing with all his contacts and his know-how. I love him!

This book and the continuing ones are turning into nailbiters for me in that too many characters are entering the storylines, knowing too many details. My stomach has been getting in knots with all the people following other people and knowing too much.
But I do love the fact that Jack helps the ladies without anyone's knowledge.

I can't wait for the rest of the women's revenges! I hope Fern Michaels doesn't make us wait for too long.
