A fresh look at Just As I Am,
This review is from: Just As I Am (Audio CD)
I'm reviewing this album today April 2 2005, even though I've owned it since January 2004. `Why?' I hear you ask. Fair question and I'll tell you if you read to the end.
Despite being made within 6 days of winning Australian Idol 1 and containing some covers, Guy also managed to get 3 of his own songs or collaborations on it and make a good album. Some covers, sure, but you can't accuse Guy of doing karaoke. It doesn't quite fit. It's like accusing jazz musos of doing karaoke when they do another version of `Body and Soul'. The phrase `to make a song your own' was coined for people like Guy. A long time has passed since January 2004 when I bought this album. There's been a new and better album - Beautiful Life - with Guy writing on 10 tracks. Just As I am gradually fell lower in my CD rotation and when I did play it I picked out tracks, missed a few. Recently I was selecting songs for a portable compilation. I sat down and played many albums right through, track by track, including Just As I Am. For some reason it was like hearing it with new ears, and my favorites on it now change with every play - just like Beautiful Life. It's now on high rotation again with no tracks missed. It's like he was educating me, and now I'm REALLY getting it!

A MUSICAL TREAT - ENJOY!,
This review is from: Just As I Am (Audio CD)
This is Guy's debut album and is full of funky tunes, a lovely ballad called 'Beautiful Friend' and a wonderful version, arranged by Guy, of 'Wonderful World' and Princes' 'When Doves Cry'. It also includes his smash hit single 'Angels Brought Me Here' which is the fastest selling single in Australian Recording history. Three of the songs on the album were co-written by Guy including the second hit single 'All I Need is You'. Guy showcases his unique and wonderful voice on all the songs on this album making it a joy to listen to. There are no skip tracks and the title song 'Just as I Am' sums up Guy admirably. If you like soul, RnB and pop then this album is a must for your collection. Enjoy the wonderful gift that Guy gives through his music.

Guy Sebastian is the Idol winner of the Australian Idol.
This album proves why he was the winner of Australian Idol. I am so amazed with this album. It is really amazing for someone who just recorded it for 6 days and who is only 22 years old when recorded it!!!! This album is a great buy and must have in your music collection. It's a great collection of inspirational and contemporary songs. Guy's voice is beautiful, smooth, and heart-moving. Although I rate this album 4 stars, Guy Sebastian is definitely a 10 stars musician! Look out for him in the future and have a taste of him now by buying copies of this album for you and your friends!!

Australia's newest singing sensation, the afro-rocking Guy Sebastian delivers with his first mainstream solo album. Sebastian is a wholesome 22-year-old who has brought new light into the Australian music scene.
This album was released only weeks after Guy had convincingly won Australian Idol, and went straight to No. 1. Each song features his soulful voice, and he shows versatility by recording both catchy pop songs and heartfelt ballads. The album's highlights are 'Angels Brought Me Here', Guy's first single, 'When Doves Cry', a different take on Prince's classic, and 'So I', an uptempo pop number. 'All I Need Is You', a number 1 single in Australia, is the CD's best sing-along-to track. For fans of pop music, this is a very good buy. Guy seems destined to lead a successful career, and Just As I Am is only the beginning.

This guy (!) is superstar material. He comes across as a sincere, funny and extremely talented young man in interviews and during his performances (yes, I got majorly hooked on the Idol thing after hearing him sing!) that you just want to see him succeed because you know he'll wear success well. I hope he focuses on writing, producing and performing more of his own songs - that will be his ticket to credibility and longevity in the industry, I think. This album is a great buy in spite of a couple of remakes, which he pulls off well anyway - it's just that the original stuff's heaps better! His voice is awesome and I can't wait for his next album (which I hear is going to be gospel/R&B based) to come out. Although I rate this album 4 stars, Guy Sebastian is definitely a 6 stars musician! Look out for him in the future and have a taste of him now by buying copies of this album for you and your friends!!

This is really a wonderful album!!! It's a great collection of inspirational and contemporary songs. Guy's voice is beautiful, smooth, and heart-moving. I will buy several CD's and give to my friends. I hope more Americans discover this great album. "My Beautiful Friend" brought me to tears with its beauty. My other favorites are "3 Words," "So I," "Angels Brought Me Here," and ... well ... I guess most of the album. There's also a great remake of "Can You Stand the Rain" (originally sung by New Edition in the late 80's). I look forward to Guy's next release.

I Never Tire of Hearing this Voice,

Guy has a voice that is all his own and a sense of music that must come from deep in his very bones. During the Idol contest he took the songs and made them his own, never content to just do karaoke. His final renditions were eyeopeners for us all, and ranged from songs from Ritchie, Craig David, Prince, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Thicke etc.ending with Crazy in Love. This album shows his versatility as well as his incredible voice. One can understand why he was so popular as a vocal coach, and his knowledge of sound engineering and music technology is also apparent. In that same year he won the Pilot Pen best song with "No More", which he completely produced and sung himself in his own studio. This man with the face of an adult cherub brings his joy of music to us all. Can't wait for his Gospel album promised next year.

I liked Guy after I heard that he sang in the Christian band Planet Shakers after I saw him on Australian idol. From then on I have been a huge fan!! This album is great. It has 3 Tracks written by himself, as well as 2 covers of songs he sang on Australian idol. It also feautures Angels Brought Me here which he sang on American idol. As well as being a great singer, Guy is a great person. Go 2 his site (www.guysebastian.com.au)for more infomation on him!

Guy Sebastian...You Do Not Want To Miss This Album !!!,

I bought this album after seeing Guy perform his rendition of "What A Wonderful World." on the show World Idol.
Guy has an amazing, smooth voice with a broad vocal range. His songs are uplifting, moderate to slow in tempo, and so enjoyable! His sound is refreshing and the lyrics are meaningful not boring, cliche, or repetitive. If you like R&B or pop, you should like Guy. I'd compare his sound to Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, 98°, Tevin Campbell, and Stevie Wonder. He's got great lyrics, a silky smooth voice, and you will not be disappointed!

HOPE AMERICA DOES NOT SLEEP ON THIS ONE!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Just As I Am (Audio CD)
After seeing him on American Idol, he so impressed me that I had to get his CD. When I heard him I liked his voice so I felt it would be a great buy, its so much better than I expected and worth the cost. This is truly a treasure, the range is amazing, I catagorize this CD, somewhere between pop/r&b, with some classic remakes. The remakes are his own version and not copies, if you are going to do Prince, you better know what you are doing, AND HE DOES. I highly recommend this CD. I hope he has more exposure to the American public, he is just that good.
