5.0 out of 5 stars Love comes again
I admit I wasn't one of the many people who thought Tiesto's last album "Nyana" was anything to write home about. For me personally I felt the music was repetitive and that two cd were one too many. When I saw that he had a new cd out, I was glad to see that it was only one disc but at the same time I was concerned about the music and if it would be a repeat of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Tiesto turns the table on us.
I give it a three star rating because I'm more into trance with no lyrics with the exception of foreign languages. Tiesto's Just Be is highly under rated and ripped apart by a lot of people because it comes off as popish which Tiesto fans are not really prone to hearing in his past works. I can see why a lot of people hate this CD. The main argument is that it has amateur...

I admit I wasn't one of the many people who thought Tiesto's last album "Nyana" was anything to write home about. For me personally I felt the music was repetitive and that two cd were one too many. When I saw that he had a new cd out, I was glad to see that it was only one disc but at the same time I was concerned about the music and if it would be a repeat of "Nyana". I found a promo copy of "Just Be" today in the used cd bins today and thought it was worth checking out. I am so glad to have gotten it. The cd is excellent. I have to beg to differ with the editorial review author on the flow of the cd. I thought the flow of the cd was cohesive and didn't sound impatient. I was happy to hear more female vocals on this cd unlike on "Nyana" which really didn't have many vocals. The cd kicks off with "Forever Today" which opens up with a killer haunting melody but then the song eventually picks up the pace. There was not one song on this cd that I did not like. I loved all the songs. I loved Tiesto's remix of "Adagio For Strings". My other favorite trance artist/dj BT contributes on the wonderful "Loves Come Again". Although there are only ten songs on this cd, the play time is 78 minutes long. "Just Be" is definitely one of the best dance albums of the year, if not the best (at least to me it is).

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Be shows why Tiesto is the #1 DJ in the world, January 13, 2005
By
This review is from: Just Be (Audio CD)
I was extremely skeptical of even buying this album. I thought Tiesto was energetic, but not amazing live-- his original compositions usually lacked something-- and only his remixes seemed to stand out. Basically, I thought DJ mag was full of it and Tiesto was way overrated.

After finally listening to this album and Parade of the Atheletes, I strongly disagree with my opinion I had before and am amazed of how skeptical I was even before trying a sample of the real Tiesto.

I have never listened to Tiesto's other full-release album, In My Memory, so other reviewers who angrily state that Tiesto has lost his touch, or failed with this album, I would have to disagree. Many artists, as Tiesto is a true musician, don't stick to the same style and same exact music that made them who they are in the first place. Tiesto spins and mixes trance from across the world-- it's never the same as listened to in his In Search of Sunrise Vol. 3 and Nyana, as well as his numerous remixes from Sarah McLachlan to the Dave Matthews Band. Ferry Corsten did not stay with his well-known melodic trance and went house with his recent album Right of Way. Oakenfold's style is all-around as most of his albums are mainly progressive to melodic trance, his full-release album Bunkka proved that Oakenfold's diverse styles and abilities as a musician. How is Tiesto any different?

Just Be is an album filled with sorrowful strings and a beat that flows with effervescent energy that Tiesto seems to channel too well. Each song is filled with energy, making you want to get up and move-- to do something. 6 tracks of the the total 10 are vocals, 4 are instrumentals. To many this is discouraging, I think it's beautiful.

"Forever Today" starts off the album with slow strings that stops and leads into a fast-paced beat that washes over you with strings and synths. This track leads you into the next track where BT sings his heart out, "Love Comes Again".

Similar to his housey-synth melodies in "Traffic" or sounds of "Lethal Industry", "Loves Comes Again" is another floor-thumping track complete with vocals from BT and music from Tiesto. Lethal combination.. This leads you into the intersection of "Traffic".

"Traffic" is a track with pulsing bass and dramatic synth melodies. Just another one of your Tiesto anthems (wink).

"Sweet Mysery" is my personal favorite off the album. A slower beat and highly different from his other tracks before, this song is heavy with lots of heavy synths and strings, not to mention the almost eerie-industrial feel to it. The lush vocals complete this track, making it one of the best ones.

"Nyana" first made its appearence on his Nyana album, what a classic track this is. Gives you a nostalgic feeling of the classic trance days, a progressive trance song that just washes over you in a euphoric wave.

"Ur" is yet another ominous, slow track with a trip-hop beat rather than a trance beat. This track really reminds me of a track from Rob Dougan, from the trip-hop beat to gritty vocals and overall feel. Great melody at the climax of the song. Truly emotionally-charged.

"Walking on Clouds" picks the album up from the depressing feel of "Ur", with amazing vocals from Kirsty Hawkshaw (She was the vocals behind many tracks for artists such as Delerium and Orbital). Nothing too hard, just a simpler, soaring song.

"A Tear in the Open" opens up with just foreign vocals (no idea what language it is, sounds Mediterranean or Middle Eastern). Another strong song... my second favorite. Far from the sounds of "Nyana" or the house feel of "Traffic", it explores the vocals and turns them into a pulsing track.

"Just Be". Great lyrics, great vocals, great beat. No more explanation needed on the first single from the album.

"Adagio For Strings" the infamous Adagio for String originally composed by Samuel Barber, later turned popular by William Orbit who did his own rendition of the classical piece, as well as by Ferry Corsten. This is all-around favorite for most people, taking the beautiful melody of the classical piece and turning it into a 7-minute floor-grinding anthem.

Tiesto did a marvelous job on this album, focusing more on his tastes of classical melodies it seems.

This album, Just Be, him being the man behind the music for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, his Parade of Atheletes album from the Olympics, and his world-wide tour to all his fans... he deserves his third-straight title of DJ Mag's #1 in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Progress, January 25, 2005

Trance lovers must always push themselves to listen to what at first seems like garbage only to know other trance lovers around them who like this new sound. Tiesto in general is no exception to this rule, in fact he happens to be hardest of the pro trance Djs to get into but when you do, no doubt you will scowering around the place for everything else he has done.

This album is along the same lines as something like Sasha's Xpander, Airdrawndagger etc. It has lots and lots and lots of vocal singing but to be honest lovely voices and rocking trance work well, as they do here.

If you are looking for flawless banging and mixing then go to his in Search of Sunrise series, Magik or grab Oakenfold's new creamfields. This is more an artists album than a clubbing adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must-have dance album, June 23, 2004

Not the typical tiesto album....but just as good if not even better. Tiesto has shown that he is just as great a composer as a DJ and mixer. The first track, Forever Today in my opinion is a statement by Tiesto about electronic music, and its basically being the modern extension of classical symphony as far as musical purity and supremacy. Thats my interpretation - the track starts with about 3 minutes of pure symphony much like that heard in movie scores of today and has a wonderful melody, then the song evolves into an electronic song with the same melody eventually resurfacing and making the song soar. Awesome. Then comes Tiesto's and BT's collaboration Love Comes Again which any Tiesto or BT fan will not be surprised nor dissappointed in - its great. Traffic and Nyana are Tiesto's current solo dance floor ventures and have been remixed by several other artists for a reason. UR, Sweet Misery, Walking on Clouds, A Tear in the Open, and Just Be are vocal-accompanied ballads of a sort and each is somewhat simple yet original and enduring, I've listened to them countless times and am still going...A couple are one-track pieces but a couple may be suited for DJ mixes at the right times...One thing is for sure, Kirsty Hawkshaw is amazing. I didn't know of her before this album but I'm an instant fan. Hands down, for anyone who considers themselves a dance music fan, this is a must-have since its a big chapter in the career of the world's current best DJ (and its musically superb).

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, September 11, 2005

Wow, great CD, great experience, great great.

A lot of musical ideas in that CD. I bought it fearing dissapointments because In Search of Sunrise 3 represents a superb work and I thought that maybe he wouldn't go beyond that bar.

If you have the opportunity and like electronica, listen Tiësto's Just Be, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless Work, August 3, 2004
This review is from: Just Be (Audio CD)
It's rare if not impossible to see trance albums entering the top 5 album charts; however, those of us who know the latest production from the Dutch DJ, producer, are well convinced that he did it by pushing his "Just Be" as high as no. 1 not only in the UK's album chart but in many others including his very own country's Megatop 100.

Tiesto proves with this album that he definitely has spent 99% of his life expressing himself through music. Personally, I was pretty convinced that the best dance music could only come from the German producers but that was until I noticed how this dutchman describes to the world what the real dance music should sound like.

He starts the album humbly but yet uniquely with "Forever Today" who's melodic symphony informs the listener that this is not going to be your everyday type of dance music. Second, comes his single "Love Comes Again" feat. BT, which took the charts by storm. I'd say your mind stays calm until he gets to "Sweet Misery," which makes you feel the kick through it's beautifully aranged female vocal. You become a true Tiesto fan; however, when your CD player hits the the heart of the product called "Just Be." As you start listening to it, you will notice that Tiesto doesn't try to get your attention by filling the track with different keyboard levels, but he chooses to keep the track at a mellow and simplified form while the song gets under your skin through Kristy Hawkshaw's magnificent and electrifying voice. Other mindblowing tracks are "Walking on the Clouds" again feat. Kristy Hawkshaw, "Tear in the Open" and of course the track called "UR," which is, I'd say, somewhat is originated from '80 Depeche Mode neighbourhood.

Excelent album, you'll become true Tiesto fan the second you are done litening to this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiesto at his BEST!, June 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Just Be (Audio CD)
Every time I buy a new Tiesto album I say "this one is my favorite" ... but I honestly think "Just Be" is his all-time BEST piece of work.

Every single song on this album is just plain addictive, particularly the title track, "Love Comes Again," and "Sweet Misery." Tiesto continues to break new ground while at the same time continues to "just be" himself. God zy dank!

I LOVE U TIESTO!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars tiesto does a PVD, May 10, 2005

Initially i was extremely dissapointed when i bought this album. Initially expecting thumping melodic trance i was some what suprised by what was on the album and it took a while to get around the fact that this was like nothing else i had heard from Tiesto before. Once i got over the initial shock though i began to understand what the album was about. Like PvD with his last album 'Reflections', Tiesto is now doing what he wants to do instead of what the masses want. Tiesto is no longer a producer, but more of a composer, especially when it comes to such tracks as 'Forever today' with its soaring orchestral opening which is just brilliant in my opinion. If you are someone who enjoys and appreciates a wide range in music you will enjoy this album, but if you want to listen to the type of music that Tiesto plays in the clubs then this isn't for you, instead try one of his DJ mix CD's such as 'Nyana' which is another brilliant CD.

I thought "Just Be" was an alright cd that concentrates on tiesto's higher notes of trance. "Just Be" is probably one of the better songs with "Adiago for strings" finishing up the cd contently. If you are a Tiesto fan i would recommend the buy. Its not a bad cd to have in the collection.
