5.0 out of 5 stars Rochelle Alers Has Done It Again!, April 23, 2000
This review is from: Just Before Dawn (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have become one of Ms. Alers loyal fans, having read all of her published novels and as usual I am proud to say she is truly outstanding! Rochelle Alers, for many years has brought us many stories about the Hideaway Legacy Clan. As the Second Generation Continues with family and friends, she brings us Sara Sterling (Max and Eve Blackwell-Sterling's daughter) and Salem Lassiter.

If you are a long time favorite of Rochelle Alers books, then you will not be disappointed as she delivers this in the same charisma as the others. If you are new to her work, it won't matter too much for you to read the sequels out of order and read this one.

This book will offer a strong couple, Sara and Salem, the suspense of life-threatening danger, betrayal, lots of intimacy and the support of family. Both the major and minor plots will keep your interested all the way to the end. The author is extremely good in the details of Native American History, because here is a culture that has been solely tied with African Americans, the book provides such precise details, that you don't have to go to the library for the information, you can just read this book and gain so much more.

Thank you Rochelle, for providing your readers with the use of your gift of writing, you are truly appreciated and we look forward to your next published novel.

Here are some of my favorite published books by Rochelle Alers: Hideaway, Home Sweet Home, Summer Magic, Hidden Agenda, Vows, Heaven Sent, Summer Magic, Harvest Moon and Gentle Yearning.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Did You Expect!, April 26, 2000

Just Before Dawn was a wonderful love story. Sara Sterling really didn't think a man could make her desire him. Salem Lassiter proved her wrong. Sara coming home for some much needed rest was the start. She was mesmerized with him. I was too(smile). Sara really knew how to handle herself in and out of the court room. I loved her relationship with her mother. Kind of reminded me of the relationship my sister and I have with our mother.

I loved this story. Salem Lassiter was the BOMB! His senuousness and his abiiity to know her emotions, just made him awesome. He was so attentive, he reminded me so much of Sara's father Matthew.

I was so into their relationship, that the other things that happened in the story just fell into place. I am really excited about Emily and Chris's story. I can see the relationship forming and Chris is probably going to play hard to get, but Emily (if she is like her father) will definitely get her man. Rochelle has done it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mystic and romance makes a powerful potion, May 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Just Before Dawn (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Dr. Salem Lassiter is a strong, sexy, mystical brother, attuned to his woman and his nature. What real romance readers want, they always get, from romance novelist, Rochelle Alers. In this novel, attorney Sara Sterling, has few if any reasons for letting the good doctor get away. Alers repeatedly characterizes male heros who mesmerize as well as romance. Her female characters are strong in ambition as well as "need". Dr.Salem Lassiter embodies a soothing blend of intuition and desire for Sara that is so absorbing. You just simply crave for more of these male characters, who not just physcially define what women look for but quite frankly, leave the reader looking around in "airports" for their own "hero". Rochelle Alers' stories are just written perfectly for the big screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Before Dawn, February 22, 2001

Wow! I am definitely not taking this book to the resale book store!

Rochelle is a great writer. I love the way that she weaves the historical and cultural information into the stories.. I have already checked into visiting New Mexico and Arizona.

Previously I did not read romance novels. They turned me off because I thought that they were a sappy waste of pulp. But.... I was looking for much needed interracial fiction one day, and the book Vows popped up. I read a few pages and was immediatelly hooked. I then had to get another and another. I finally found my way to Just Before Dawn. By theis time, I felt that I knew the characters. I felt that they could have been my relatives.. I started to see myself in some of their personalities.

Plus, the sexxxy Salem character had me hotter than pepper pudding by the time my husband got home from work.

Now, he buys Rochelle Alers books for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Before Dawn, July 5, 2000
This review is from: Just Before Dawn (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Rochele Alers continues the tradition of the Cole Clan in thesecond generation of the acclaimed "Hideaway" series calledthe Daughters and Sisters Trilogy. In this episode we get to experience Sara Sterling's story. Sara is the daughter of Matthew "Mateo" Sterling of Hidden Agenda. Matthew, a close friend of the Cole family, came to Eve's rescue and later became her husband. He adopted her son Christopher and later had Sara. Now Sara, a New York district attorney, is experiencing burnout and has come back to her beloved New Mexico home of Las Cruces. She is twenty-nine years old and has left a handsome, successful man in New York who wants to marry her....Fans of the Hideaway Series will not be disappointed as once again great loving is combined with the Afro Latin culture and one comes to expect now coupled with the flavors of Navajo culture complete with the dialect and mysticism.

5.0 out of 5 stars JUST BEFORE DAWN, April 27, 2000

AWESOME! ROCHELE ALERS DOES NOT DISAPPOINT! I AM A HUGE FAN OF MS. ALERS AND LOOK FORWARD TO READING HER BOOKS. THIS BOOK LIVED UP TO EVERY EXPECTION. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. HAVING READ EACH OF BOOKS IN THE "HIDEAWAY" SERIES, IT WAS FUN REVISITING MATT AND EVE STERLING. BUT I MOST ENJOYED THE BEAUTIFUL LOVE AFFAIR BETWEEN SARAH AND SALEM. SALEM IS ONE TERRIFIC GUY. MS. ALERS REALLY HAS A WAY OF PULLING YOU IN AND MAKING YOU FEEL THE CHARACTERS. I ABSOLUTELY FELL IN LOVE WITH SALEM. IT WAS A TERRIFIC BOOK AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO THE SERIOUS ROMANCE NOVEL FAN. MS. ALERS, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND I LOOK FORWARD TO EMILY KIRKLAND'S AND CHRIS DELGADO'S STORY.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book number 6 in the series - good read, November 7, 2006
This review is from: Just Before Dawn (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a good read, great plot and characters. Nice to catch up with the first generation of the Hideaway Legacy. I like the cultural references to the Native American culture in this series - quite educational. However I did not understand Sara's reason for breaking up with Salem you would think 2 people were not involved in the bedroom so why did she not take some responsibility especially after promising his mother that she would never hurt him, she breaks up with him cos he forgets to use a condom! Fickle woman! (I roll my eyes)
Anyway I look forward to reading Christopher and Emily story its quite obvious since Harvest moon they gonna get together-:o)

5.0 out of 5 stars Love awaits "Just Before Dawn", January 20, 2002
By
Luv2Read "imareader2" (Baton Rouge, LA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Just Before Dawn (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
"Just Before Dawn" is Sara Sterling's and Salem Lassiter's story. Sara's much deserved vacation back home on her parents' ranch turns out to be much more than she ever envisioned. Sara and Dr. Salem Lassiter began casually dating, which later turns into a serious venture.

Although, Sara has been dating other men, it has been a while since Sara has thought of actually becoming involved with a man. After having overcome an "eyeopener" involving the man she was engaged to be married to, Sara has shied away from becoming emotionally involved.

The romance department has not treated Salem any better. He has been "burned" by love, but is it now time to throw water on the ashes and smother the fire, then go on and find new love? Can that new love be with Sara?

Salem and Sara seemed to be drawn to each other, their lives seem to be entwined. A new and greater love awaits for them, but they must first overcome some mishaps in their lives.

Sara has learned some things about Salem's past, but she must determine the truth involving them. Also, Sara's life is not free from obstacles. Her life is embroiled in danger and intrigue. Can they survive the dangers that await them and live a life of true love that awaits them "Just Before Dawn"?

Another great one, Ms. Alers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ms Alers Has Done It Again!, May 4, 2000
This review is from: Just Before Dawn (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
In this book Rochelle Alers continunes the Hideaway Legacy which includes characters that make you stand up and take notice. Ms Alers always pulls you into her stories there're so intense, there is always something happening to one charater or another in the story. I really loved all the new characters that were introduced in this book including the grown-up versions of Sara, Christopher, Emily, and Micheal. Sara and Salem were written well toghter. It took a while but they got it together. I really loved this one. I can't wait until the saga continunes with Chris and Emily. But I must say Ms Alers, Micheal might be a hard shell to crack! Much love to Rochelle Alers!
